(CTE) programs in Virginia public schools serve more than 640,000 students in one or more CTE courses in grades 6-12. These programs are designed to prepare young people for productive futures while meeting the Commonwealth's need for well-trained and industry-certified technical workers. Assessment Updates: Grade 3-8 Reading & Mathematics for 2022-2023
Legislation passed in the 2021 Virginia General Assembly (HB2027 and SB1357) required the implementation of “through-year” or “growth” assessments beginning in fall 2021 for reading and mathematics in grades 3-8.  Beginning with the second year of implementation (2022-2023) and beyond, the legislation requires that the grades 3-8 reading and mathematics growth assessments be administered to students once in the fall and once in the winter (mid-year) during the school year. In addition to the growth assessments, the SOL tests for grade 3-8 reading and mathematics will continue to be administered.Superintendent's Memo 135-22 provides information regarding the assessment updates grade 3-8 reading and mathematics for 2022-2023.

VDOE Fine Arts Music Technology Professional Learning Community 
Calling all Virginia teachers of music technology for grades 6-12! On July 7 at 2 p.m., the VDOE Fine Arts staff is hosting an informal professional learning community to meet music educators from across Virginia and discuss current topics facing music technology classrooms. This Zoom session will be a 45-minute interactive discussion. A certificate of participation will be issued to those who attend. Register today!

School Quality Profiles 
School Quality Profiles were developed by the state Board of Education in response to the 2015 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the board to redesign online reports for schools and school divisions to more effectively communicate to parents and the public about the status and achievements of the Virginia’s public schools. School Quality Profiles are available for all schools, school divisions, and for the state. Check them out today from VDOE!

Summer Literacy Institute July 21-22: Nonfiction Focus
Longwood's Summer Literacy Institute will host award winning authors Melissa Stewart and Carole Boston Weatherford  who will be speaking on nonfiction writing and instruction. Stewart will present a half day workshop on the Five Kinds of Nonfiction books. In addition, a variety of literacy related concurrent sessions are offered. Fralin Museum of Art Creative Writing Professional Development
Join Fralin educators and UVA Creative Writing instructors on June 28 from 8:30am-12:30pm for a morning of slow looking and creative writing at the museum. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This teacher program is free but registration is required.

Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners – Summer Institute
VDOE Office of Special Education Instructional Services, in partnership with the Offices of Humanities and Gifted Education, will sponsor a collaborative summer Institute on Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners. The Institute will include three consecutive conferences that will take place on July 18-20 in Richmond. Each conference day will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and will focus on addressing the needs of students with disabilities in a specific context. VIRGINIA COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS

 M.Ed. Virtual Information Session-July 12
Learn more about the University of Richmond M.Ed. programs in curriculum and instruction and educational leadership and policy studies, including a post-master's certificate option. Register for a 45-minute Zoom meeting for details about the program, admission requirements, costs, and resources. The sessions begin at 5:30 p.m.

Master of Science in Education with an Educational Leadership Concentration
This Longwood University’s hybrid model is designed for working professionals, blending real-world applicability with flexibility. The program meets on-campus five Saturdays per semester with the remainder of learning occurring asynchronously online! Upon graduation, candidates are prepared for administrative, supervisory, and leadership roles in schools, school divisions, and educational organizations.
