Summer Literacy Institute July 21-22: Nonfiction Focus Longwood's Summer Literacy Institute will host award winning authors Melissa Stewart and Carole Boston Weatherford who will be speaking on nonfiction writing and instruction. Stewart will present a half day workshop on the Five Kinds of Nonfiction books. In addition, a variety of literacy related concurrent sessions are offered. Fralin Museum of Art Creative Writing Professional Development Join Fralin educators and UVA Creative Writing instructors on June 28 from 8:30am-12:30pm for a morning of slow looking and creative writing at the museum. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. This teacher program is free but registration is required.
VALIN Cohort 4.0 Virginia Leads Innovation Network (VALIN) will convene its Cohort 4.0 from August 2022 to June 2023. Individuals and teams of Virginia education leaders are invited to complete the application process between June 2 and June 29. Facilitated by the VDOE, Commonwealth Learning Partnership, and affiliated Partners, VALIN provides the ecosystem and resources to enable up to 30 teams of education leaders from every region of the Commonwealth to augment their leadership capacity through facilitated, application-based activities. Applications will be accepted now through June 29.
Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program The Program is accepting applications until June 30. It recognizes the efforts of many Virginia schools to increase the environmental awareness and stewardship of our youngest citizens. Virginia Naturally Schools is the official environmental education school recognition program of the Commonwealth, administered by the Department of Wildlife Resources.
Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners – Summer Institute VDOE Office of Special Education Instructional Services, in partnership with the Offices of Humanities and Gifted Education, will sponsor a collaborative summer Institute on Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners. The Institute will include three consecutive conferences that will take place on July 18-20 in Richmond. Each conference day will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and will focus on addressing the needs of students with disabilities in a specific context. 2022 VASCD Annual Conference The VASCD Annual Conference brings together educators from across the Commonwealth (and beyond) to learn, teach, lead, and connect! This year’s conference will be held at The Williamsburg Lodge. The pre-conference will be on November 29 and the annual conference will be held November 30 – December 1.
