VDOE has shared information with local school divisions about summer feeding programs offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA in Superintendent's Memo 072-22. VDOE Virginia Arts and Culture Institutes for Fine Arts Educators
VDOE is offering two 2022 Virginia Arts and Culture Institutes for fine arts educators during the summer. See Superintendent’s Memo 096-22 for details, participation requirements, and registration information.
The Southwest Virginia Music and Culture Institute June 22-24: This Institute will provide a hands-on professional learning opportunity for educators related to music and cultural heritage of Southwest Virginia. Music educators will collaborate with professionals on the curation and development of instructional resources and strategies aligned to the Music SOL.
Chickahominy Tribal Arts and Culture Institute June 29-30: The Institute will provide workshops led by the Chickahominy Indian Tribe and Chickahominy Indian Eastern Division Tribe. Experiential workshops will include topics such as beading, clay, dance, leatherwork, and storytelling and will provide educators with resources and connections to implement the Fine Arts SOL.

Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program
The Program is accepting applications until June 30. It recognizes the efforts of many Virginia schools to increase the environmental awareness and stewardship of our youngest citizens. Virginia Naturally Schools is the official environmental education school recognition program of the Commonwealth, administered by the Department of Wildlife Resources.
VATE Annual Conference and Retreat: Retreat the Write Way!
Consider submitting a proposal to present at the VA Association of Teachers of English state level conference. Join Penny Kittle, Joanne Gabbin, and Rebecca Harper at Shrine Mont October 6-9. Proposals due by June 30.
Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners – Summer Institute
VDOE Office of Special Education Instructional Services, in partnership with the Offices of Humanities and Gifted Education, will sponsor a collaborative summer Institute on Addressing the Needs of Diverse Learners. The Institute will include three consecutive conferences that will take place on July 18-20 in Richmond. Each conference day will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and will focus on addressing the needs of students with disabilities in a specific context. 2022 VASCD Annual Conference
The VASCD Annual Conference brings together educators from across the Commonwealth (and beyond) to learn, teach, lead, and connect! This year’s conference will be held at The Williamsburg Lodge. The pre-conference will be on November 29 and the annual conference will be held November 30 – December 1. For more information about registration and costs see VASCD.
