Did You Know?  
The Virginia Board of Education is seeking nominees for vacancies on the Advisory Board for Teacher Education and Licensure (ABTEL).  For all advisory committees, the Board seeks to have diverse representation among all appointees. The Advisory Board for Teacher Education and Licensure has three vacancies for: an elementary classroom teacher representative; a secondary classroom teacher  representative; a personnel administration representative.  Educators, administrators, and other individuals, as well as organizations are invited to recommend nominees to fill the vacancies noted above. Applications Now Available for 2022 GWLA
The website with GWLA Applications and information is now updated with the 2022 information. Superintendent's Memo 287-21 announcing the 2022 Summer Residential Program was posted on October 15 and has additional information.  Students must begin the application process no later than January 6, 2022

U.S. Department of State Study Abroad Scholarships for High School Students
The application periods are currently open for several study abroad programs. These scholarships cover international airfare, tuition, program costs, meals, and living accommodations (often with a host family).  The programs have no language prerequisites, except for certain Youth Ambassadors programs.  Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 18.5 when the program starts.

The Virginia Work-Based Learning Collaboration Network and Virginia Ed Strategies  invite all work-based learning coordinators, CTE Directors and business leaders to attend their upcoming session on November 15. Onward and Upward” Grants Supporting Math and Literacy Instruction! 
Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane is inviting Virginia’s school divisions to apply for $107 million in federal pandemic-relief funds to move the Commonwealth’s students onward and upward in their journey out of the pandemic by providing targeted math and literacy support to students, in addition to addressing their other academic and mental health needs. VDOE has created a website for its federal pandemic recovery efforts, Onward and Upward VA, which will show what funds have been allocated directly to school divisions and where they will be focused to support students and teachers.

Strong Men and Women in Virginia History Contest
High school students in Virginia are invited to honor outstanding African Americans by participating in Dominion Energy and the Library of Virginia’s Strong Men and Women in Virginia History student contest. Projects are due by December 31.
