Virginia Special Education Instructional Services provides a direct line of communication with Virginia’s educators, paraprofessionals, and special education administrators and focuses on specially designed instruction for students with disabilities. This publication provides a way to share new resources as well as make special educators aware of professional development opportunities and resources of interest to special educators.
All educators are encouraged to sign up to receive these Special Education Instructional Services emails directly from VDOE.

The IEP Team’s Pivotal Role in Promoting Progress for Students with Disabilities
The PROGRESS Center is a resource for educators and leaders that provides programming for students with disabilities. Join the PROGRESS Center for a webinar that will provide an overview of the IEP Team’s key members, assigned responsibilities, and legal requirements on March 16, 2021, at noon. They will also discuss how to ensure the team works collaboratively to promote progress for students with disabilities. The presenters will highlight legal requirements, share resources, and discuss considerations for the IEP Team in the context of COVID-19.

Just in Time Mathematics Quick Checks – Kindergarten through Algebra II are now available!
Geometry and Algebra II Just in Time Mathematics Quick Checks have been added to the Just in Time Mathematics Quick Checks Webpage. Just in Time Mathematics Quick Checks are formative assessments that align to the 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL). These resources, developed by Virginia teachers and mathematics leaders, are designed to help teachers identify students with unfinished learning and assist in planning instruction to fill potential gaps “just in time.”
