Dr. Danielle Apugo, Professor of Education, Virginia Commonwealth University
Danielle Apugo, PhD, is a proud Louisiana native who professionally engages the world as an educator, storyteller, and assistant professor of Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research highlights Black women and girls’ experiences navigating race, class, and gender dynamics in education. Dr. Apugo is also faculty expert and member of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Disrupting Criminalization in Education iCubed Research Core. Danielle has a wealth of diverse K–12 teaching and leadership experiences throughout the United States and has been awarded the Early Career Educator of Color Leadership Award by the National Council of Teachers of English. Her latest co-edited book, Strong Black Girls: Reclaiming Schools in Their Own Image, is available now through Columbia University’s Teachers College Press.

Dr. Charles Barrett, Lead School Psychologist, Loudoun County Public Schools
Charles A. Barrett, PhD, NCSP is a lead school psychologist with Loudoun County Public Schools and adjunct lecturer at Northern Virginia Community College, the Graduate School of Education at Howard University, and the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University. An award-winning educator for his commitment to students, families, schools, and communities, Charles holds various leadership positions with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and frequently speaks to a variety of professional and lay audiences about promoting positive outcomes for children. Maria D. Burgos serves as the Supervisor of Global Learning and Culturally Responsive Instruction for Prince William County Public Schools and provides professional development and consulting in the areas of school climate, culture proficiency, culturally responsive instruction, student leadership, organizational and curriculum development. With over twenty years in K-12 public education, Maria attributes her passion for collaborating with schools and community organizations to her experiences as an AfroCaribbean English language learner, the love of teaching/learning, experiences with working and living in diverse learning environments, and parenting four healthy AfroLatino children.
