Update: Revised Suicide Prevention Guidelines for VA Public Schools On June 18, 2020, the Virginia Board of Education adopted the revised Suicide Prevention Guidelines for Virginia Public Schools. The final version of the newly revised guidelines will be posted to the Virginia Department of Education’s Suicide Prevention Resources Web page. Webinar - Fine Arts Education Resources from eMediaVA Join educators from around Virginia on July 28 to learn about educational resources from WHRO Public Media. Lyndsay Horner, Manager of eMediaVA will lead the one-hour session to include how to access and how to find resources to support student learning in fine arts areas of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. The session will be recorded and made available on-demand at VDOE Fine Arts. The webinar is free but registration is required.

Leveraging Feedback in Virtual Learning Course: July 20–August 20 Participants in this self-paced workshop will learn where, when, and how to implement reflection as a means of self-assessment. Join Dr. Brandy Hempen, ASCD Emerging Leader and Curriculum Coordinator, for these high impact strategies shared in a hands-on and engaging way. Many strategies to optimize positive feedback while still focusing on progress will be shared. Bonus: There is also an embedded slow twitter chat where participants can share ideas related to the workshop with each other and the instructor.
Environmental Education Blended Workshop Project Learning Tree Virginia is offering a blended workshop on K-8 Environmental Education. Most PLT activities can be adapted to use at home with simple easy to obtain materials. Participants will receive an E-book of grades PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide, correlated to national and state academic standards, and a certificate with points. The initial video conference call will be held on July 28. Registration is open until July 24.
REL Appalachia Performance Assessment Webinars Facilitators will summarize evidence-based research related to using performance assessments and introduce participants to the Virginia Quality Criteria Review Tool. The first webinar will be held on August 4 and the second webinar will be held on August 11.
Virginia Mathematics Educator of the Year Nominations are now being accepted for the William C. Lowry Mathematics Educator of the Year. Each year, VCTM awards the mathematics educator of the year to up to five outstanding candidates: one at each level of elementary, middle, high, university, and math specialist. Electronic nominations will be accepted until October 7.
VSLA Conference Proposals-Due September 15 The Virginia State Literacy Association, formerly Virginia State Reading Association, is accepting proposals for the 2021 annual conference to be held March 18-20, 2021 in Crystal City. Deadline to submit a proposal is September 15.
