Webinar: Virginia's Cultural and Historical Museums and Sites Resources for Fine Arts Educators Join your peers from around the state on July 16 for an opportunity to explore educational resources provided by Virginia's history and cultural museums. Teachers will be connected with resources that promote deeper learning and interdisciplinary connections with fine arts content. The webinar will be led by Taylor Snow, VDOE Specialist for English and History and Social Science. Registration is required, but there is no cost to attend.

VATE Annual Conference Presenter Proposals The Virginia Association of Teachers of English is seeking presenters for the 2020 annual conference. The Conference will be held virtually on October 24 with the theme Hit the Refresh Button. Proposals are due July 10.

Virginia Mathematics Educator of the Year Nominations are now being accepted for the William C. Lowry Mathematics Educator of the Year. Each year, VCTM awards the mathematics educator of the year to up to five outstanding candidates: one at each level of elementary, middle, high, university, and math specialist. Electronic nominations will be accepted until October 7.

Webinar - Fine Arts Education Resources from eMediaVA Join educators from around Virginia on July 28 in learning about educational resources from WHRO Public Media. Lyndsay Horner, Manager of eMediaVA will lead the one-hour session to include how to access and how to find resources to support student learning in fine arts areas of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. The session will be recorded and made available on-demand at VDOE Fine Arts. The webinar is free but registration is required.

2020-2021 Academy for New Special Education Directors-September 16 VDOE would like to extend an invitation to any newly hired local Directors of Special Education to the Academy for New Special Education Directors. The yearlong Academy will include a virtual workshop and three two-day workshops in Richmond. A new Special Education Director is defined as one who is new to the position and has not been a Special Education Director in another location or was new after last year’s Academy. Library of Congress and National Association for Music Education Resources This collaboration connects educators to the Library’s digitized archives and provides ways to incorporate primary sources into the classroom. NAfME worked with Library of Congress to create curriculum units with vast resources in music, including audio, video, still images, and sheet music files. Specific units that work for distance learning are highlighted.
Career Success Stars in CTE Website! Former CTE students were recognized as the Commonwealth’s brightest Career Success Stars. The individual success stories are featured as video profiles highlighting how CTE programs provide academic and technical skills for in-demand careers. Also, there are featured spotlights representing an entrepreneur, active military personnel, and an intern which are posted on the CTE homepage. 2020 Math+Literacy Summer Series Institute A four-part webinar series to examine workshop models in mathematics and literacy as well as three pivotal instructional strategies for implementing workshop model will be offered on July 7, 14, 21, and 28. A workshop structure can serve as a guide for making intentional decisions about what to teach during whole group, small group, and independent learning as well as asynchronous and synchronous meetings. National Museum of African American History and Culture: “Talking About Race” Web Portal The portal is designed to help individuals, families, and communities talk about racism, racial identity and the way these forces shape every aspect of society, from the economy and politics to the broader American culture. The online portal provides digital tools, online exercises, video instructions, scholarly articles and more than 100 multi-media resources tailored for educators, parents, caregivers, and individuals committed to racial equality.
