Rural Math Innovative Network Initiative RMIN, facilitated by Virginia Ed Strategies, will be expanding its existing network of pre-algebra and Algebra 1 teachers to form a teacher group and administrator group. The network will participate in peer-to-peer collaboration to solve problems of practice in an effort to improve mathematics instruction. Math Correlation between VASOL to CCSS In an effort to support teachers seeking to utilize resources that may be limited to alignment with the CCSS, a spreadsheet has been created designating correlations between the Kindergarten through Algebra II-2016 SOL and the Common Core State Standards for mathematics. All VASOL and CCSS, as well as Virginia Process Goals and CCSS Mathematical Practices, are linked throughout the spreadsheet to allow for ease of cross-referencing.
COVID-19 Learning in Place Mathematics Resources These resources have been compiled to assist teachers, parents, and students during this unprecedented time. In addition, newly developed Mathematics Tracking Logs have been provided for grades K-Algebra II to assist teachers with determining which standards students have had sufficient experience with prior to the school closure; and to make decisions regarding when and how experience with new standards might occur moving forward. 2020 Health Education Standards of Learning On January 23, 2020, the Virginia Board of Education adopted the proposed revised 2020 Health Education Standards of Learning for public schools in Virginia (Agenda Item E). The final version of the 2020 Health Education Standards of Learning is posted on the VDOE website. Details about implementation timeline can be found in Superintendent’s Memo 086-20.

Continuity for Learning: Virginia Learns Anywhere! VDOE created the Continuity for Learning (C4L) Task Force consisting of teachers, leaders, and collaborating educational partners across Virginia. The C4L Task Force has prepared Virginia Learns Anywhere which reinforces much-needed structure while also empowering individual teachers to support students in learning remotely.

VA TV Classroom Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane announced that four Virginia public media stations will broadcast teacher-led classroom instruction aligned with the Commonwealth’s academic standards. Blue Ridge PBS, VPM, WETA and WHRO Public Media worked closely with the VDOE to create “VA TV Classroom” to provide instruction to students in grades K-10 who are unable to access other distance learning options. VDOE Licensing of Instructional Personnel and Candidates VDOE has been fielding questions related to the impact of closings on the licensing of instructional personnel and candidates completing approved educator preparation programs at Virginia colleges and universities.
