Spotlight on Literacy: The Shenandoah Valley Writing Project Applications are being accepted for fellowship seats in the Invitational Summer Institute held on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester. Accepted PreK-University fellows from every content area collaborate for four weeks beginning June 22 and ending July 16. Presentation Materials from the 2019 Mathematics Deeper Learning Institutes are now available! The VDOE 2019 Institutes provided teachers and mathematics leaders with professional development focused on the implementation of rich mathematical tasks to support deeper learning opportunities for students and to strengthen locally-designed curricula. The materials from the Institutes have been included for use by teachers and teacher teams.

Governor’s World Language Academies Selection Committees-Due January 17 VDOE is seeking applications from individuals who are qualified and available to serve on the GWLA Student Selection Committees for the French, German, Spanish, Latin, and Japanese Academies. Committee meetings will be held from February 26-28. The VDOE will cover expenses for mileage, meals, and lodging related to the review process following approved state guidelines. Completed applications are due by January 17.
VCTM Professional Development Grant The Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics is accepting applications for its Professional Development Grant from current VCTM K-16 members. Selected applicants would receive up to $1,000 each to attend conferences, workshops, or to provide tuition reimbursement in mathematics education within the year in which the recipient applies. Submissions will be considered as applications are received.
VSRA Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Opportunity Virginia State Reading Association offers four $500 scholarships each year to qualified undergraduate and graduate students. There is an application process, and the application is accessible on the VSRA website. Applications will be submitted using a google form link this year. Applications are due January 15.

Professional Development at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is offering a free teacher institute for upper elementary and middle school teachers, July 13–16, at the American Revolution Museum. Participants will collaborate to develop lessons and performance tasks. Each participant will receive a kit of reproduction artifacts to inspire hands-on activities. Virginia Civics We the People Training Program! We the People training program provides participating educators with the pedagogical preparation to be effective teachers of civics and government. Cohort members receive PD hours, a classroom set of We the People textbooks, access to top scholars and mentor teachers and more! Deadline for submitting applications is April 30.
