During National Veterans and Military Families Month we respect and acknowledge the sacrifices veterans and military families make on a daily basis. Virginia Tech Science Festival
Virginia Tech invites schools to take a field trip to the sixth annual science festival on Saturday, November 16. Join them for hands-on demonstrations designed to motivate learners to ask questions, get inspired, and dream big about science. All festival events are free and support is available for school field trips on a first-come, first-served basis.

VDOE Comprehensive Literacy Webinar Series
As a follow-up to Superintendent’s Memo 249-19, the VDOE English Office will host a variety of webinars focused on best practices in literacy instruction and resources available to school divisions. Through the diverse expertise of our partners and presenters, the goal is to offer timely, research-based, and instructionally sound sessions to Virginia educators. VDOE is pleased to continue working alongside the Center for Applied Second Language Studies to support LFO Users in Virginia. This school year, four free one-hour webinars/work sessions will be offered to help users better understand and use the platform. K-12 Computer Science Competition
VDOE STEM and Innovation is inviting students to share their ideas and skills through participating in a Computer Science Competition. This competition, sponsored by VDOE, CODEVA, and the Science Museum of Virginia, allows students the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity. Winners will be announced during Computer Science Education Week in December!

Foundational Skills to Support Reading for Understanding in Kindergarten Through 3rd Grade.
This practice guide provides four recommendations for teaching foundational reading skills to students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Each researched-based recommendation includes implementation steps and solutions for common obstacles. This resource is geared towards teachers, administrators, and other educators who want to improve their students’ foundational reading skills. Kids' Tech University
This is a semester-long educational research program that puts scientists and engineers in front of children to encourage the exploration of intriguing topics in STEM. Children and their parents will engage in interactive sessions by research scientists and hands-on activities. Registration is open!
