How to Renew Your Coverage
Health coverage from Virginia Medicaid needs to be renewed each year. This is called an annual renewal.
There are 3 main things you need to know:
- If your local department of social services has all of the information needed to complete your renewal, this process will be done automatically.
- You will receive a notice in the mail telling you if your coverage will continue for another year.
- If your renewal cannot be completed automatically, you will receive a paper renewal form in the mail. This means you must take action to renew your health coverage.
Visit CoverVA.org for instructions on how to renew your coverage in faster, easier ways.

What's Happening Around the Commonwealth?
The Board of Contractors is on track to receive more than 14,000 new applications this year from contractors and tradesmen applying for licensure in the Commonwealth. The projected number is a ten percent increase from 2024 and nearly double the application volume handled a decade ago.
“Contractors and tradesmen know that opportunity thrives in Virginia,” said Governor Youngkin. “With record investment in the Commonwealth across industries, Virginia isn’t just competing to win, Virginia is winning! To everyone who is looking to start the next great chapter in their professional career: Virginia is the place to build your future.”

You Asked, We Answered
Question: Can I use my Cardinal Care health plan out of state while visiting and assisting an elderly aging parent?
Answer: Traditionally, out of state coverage is provided in relatively limited situations. Out of state emergency services are covered and there are also prior authorization procedures allowable for the access of services that an individual is unable to access within Virginia. We encourage you to reach out to your health plan for more information.
Question: How do you learn which providers are in-network?
Answer: You can check on the Cardinal Care app, the Managed Care website, over the phone with your health plan, or on your health plan's website.
Questions: What happens if my D-SNP health plans are not aligned, what actions would I need to take?
Answer: If you are eligible for or have Medicare, you can choose a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) for your Medicare health coverage. A D-SNP is a Medicare Advantage plan. It works with your Medicaid health plan. If you want to have your health plan aligned, contact your D-SNP plan to make sure that you've chosen the Medicare plan that you want. Once you have chosen the D-SNP that you want, DMAS will align the Medicaid health plan.
