It's Flu Season, Take Proactive Steps to Improve Your Health
Adult Medicaid members now receive coverage for preventative services. These include routine health care such as screenings, check-ups, and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease, or other health problems. Preventative services can help people improve their health before something becomes a larger problem.

Cardinal Care works to provide your patients the care they need, including dental health. Developing good dental health habits (including regular dental visits) helps children get a jump start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Cardinal Care Cares!
In honor of Valentine's Day, DMAS is showcasing how Cardinal Care cares about you and your patients!
Cardinal Care cares about access to services, that's why we offer transportation to doctor's appointments or other Medicaid services. Transportation services are available for Medicaid members who are a part of DMAS' managed care health plans as well as members in our fee-for-service program.
Do you have any patients who might need transportation to appointments? Share our transportation web page with those who may need it!
Improving Phone Menu Options for Medicaid Members with Language and Hearing Needs
To ensure meaningful access for all Medicaid members, clear communication is key. Providers can improve phone menu options to better serve individuals with language and hearing needs.
Best Practices for Language Access:
-
Prioritize Spanish: Place a Spanish-language option at the start of the phone menu, as it's the second most spoken language among Virginia Medicaid members.
-
Offer an "Other Languages" Option: This allows members with limited English proficiency (LEP) to quickly access interpreters in their preferred language.
-
Simplify Navigation: Reduce the number of menu prompts to streamline the experience and help members get the support they need faster.
Access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals:
- Include TTY (Text Telephone) services for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. If no TTY line is available, members can dial 711 for nationwide relay services.
These changes can enhance member satisfaction, reduce barriers, and ensure compliance with federal language access guidelines.
