It's Flu Season, Take Proactive Steps to Improve Your Health

Adult Medicaid members now receive coverage for preventative services. These include routine health care such as screenings, check-ups, and patient counseling to prevent illnesses, disease, or other health problems. Preventative services can help people improve their health before something becomes a larger problem.

National Children's Dental Health Month

Did you know that February is National Children's Dental Health Month?

Cardinal Care works to provide our members the care they need, including dental health. Developing good dental health habits (including regular dental visits) helps children get a jump start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

Virginia Medicaid's CardinalCare Smiles program offers comprehensive dental service to children under the age of 21.

Cardinal Care cares about your access to services, that's why we offer transportation to doctor's appointments or other Medicaid services. Transportation services are available for Medicaid members who are a part of DMAS' managed care health plans as well as members in our fee-for-service program.

Medicaid General Benefits

Virginia Medicaid covers many inpatient and outpatient health services, such as preventive care, doctor visits, emergency services, mental health services, prescription drugs, maternal health services, addiction and recovery treatment, dental, and more. 

Medicaid may also be able to cover costs while in a nursing facility or if receiving home/community-based services if the individual is medically approved for services in addition to the financial evaluation.

How Much Does Coverage Cost?

Virginia Medicaid has low-cost and no-cost health coverage programs. There are programs for children, pregnant women and adults, including those with disabilities.

How to Find Your Provider

You can search for providers by Name, Provider Type, Language or Location.

Dental, Vision and Transportation Coverage

Dental: CardinalCare Smiles is Virginia's Medicaid and FAMIS dental program for adults and children. Explore more information related to dental services.

Vision: Medicaid coverage includes eye exams and treatment for all ages. Eyeglasses for individuals under the age of 21 are also covered. Health plans may offer added vision benefits above Medicaid like full or partial coverage for eyeglasses. Compare plans to see which benefits work best for you.

Transportation: Transportation is covered by Medicaid when you do not have another way to get to your doctor appointment or other Medicaid services. Explore more information on transportation services.
