 Secure Your Spot for the Language & Disability Access Forum on May 14, 2024
Join us on May 14, 2024, from 1 – 3 p.m., for a virtual forum on Language and Disability Access. This event is organized by the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) and is the first for 2024. The goal of the series is to consult and engage with Virginia Medicaid stakeholders to understand and meet the language and disability access needs of our communities.
The two-hour forum is open to the public and will focus on the theme: "Translations, Language Taglines and Strategies for Identifying Frequently Used Languages."
During the forum, a dynamic panel discussion will explore how state agencies and Medicaid stakeholders handle translations to enhance accessibility for individuals with limited English proficiency and people with disabilities.

Updated Doula Care Form
New Form Replaces Previous Doula Recommendation Form
The DMAS Doula Care Form allows Virginia Medicaid community doulas to provide doula care services to Medicaid members. A doula care form is not the same as a prescription/medical order, nor a referral form. When a licensed practitioner (such as a physician, licensed midwife, nurse practitioner, or others) completes this doula care form, they are enabling the Medicaid member access to non-clinical community doula services such as: childbirth education, comfort and massage, resource referrals, labor support, lactation support, and more. A community doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and after a woman gives birth.
All Virginia Medicaid members who are pregnant or have given birth in the last six months are eligible to receive community doula services regardless of health status.
The form was previously called the doula recommendation form. The new doula care form is available in English and Spanish on the DMAS community doula web page for providers.
