Caring for an elderly family member, spouse or child with disabilities can be overwhelming. AARP offers many resources to help caregivers find support and services.  Whether you are starting a caregiving plan, managing care from a distance or needing support for yourself, one of these three tools can help:

  1. AARP has identified and collected Virginia-specific resources that include information about health services, home and community based resources, financial and legal resources, specific audience resources and much more.
  2. The “Prepare to Care” Guide is a handbook to help develop and implement a caregiving plan for a loved one or friend. The guide is available in English, Spanish and Chinese and includes steps to get you started on your caregiving journey, tips to assess needs, national and federal resources, checklists and more.
  3. AARP also has a toll-free family caregiving line for people taking care of a loved one. Agents are available to take calls Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 1-877-333-5885. The support line is also available in Spanish at 1-888-971-2013.
