Important update on ID/DD Vaccine Eligibility

Good news! Vaccine supplies are increasing in Virginia. The Virginia Department of Medical Assistance is working to make sure our members have access to the COVID-19 vaccine. We want our Medicaid members with intellectual or developmental disabilities (ID/DD) to know that they are now eligible to get their vaccine.

We also want our members and their families to know they can get help with the pre-registration process if needed.

Please review this important information:

  • Please encourage ID/DD members and their families to fill out or update the online pre-registration form and select this category for persons with ID/DD: 'People aged 16 through 64 years with a High Risk Medical Condition or Disability that Increases Their Risk of Severe Illness from COVID-19'.
  • Health care providers may use clinical judgement to decide if a person’s medical condition or disability makes them a priority for the vaccine. We encourage you to work with Medicaid members in this category to verify their eligibility and share information with them about the vaccine and the pre-registration process.
  • Persons can get help with pre-registration from their Community Services Board case manager as available.
  • Medicaid members can also contact their managed health plan care coordinator for help with any barrier to getting pre-registered, including questions about vaccine eligibility or special transportation needs.
