Richmond, VA — In recognition of the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of emergency management professionals, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is proud to announce the recognition of Emergency Management Professionals Week, taking place March 17-23, 2024. The third week of March, each year, has been designated as Emergency Management Professionals Week in Virginia.
Emergency management professionals provide the leadership, management, and operational skills necessary to enable their communities, organizations, and agencies to develop emergency plans and procedures, ensure personnel is adequately trained and exercise plans, provide emergency warnings, notifications, and alerts, and acquire resources to protect lives and property and enhance resiliency to emergency events.
"We are immensely grateful for the selfless commitment and unwavering dedication demonstrated by our emergency management professionals throughout the commonwealth," said Shawn Talmadge, state coordinator of emergency management. "Their expertise and steadfast resolve are the cornerstones of our commonwealth's preparedness and resilience. As we commemorate Emergency Management Professionals Week, let us express our deepest appreciation for their invaluable contributions to keep our communities safe.”
Emergency Management Professionals Week serves as a poignant reminder of the vital support made by individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the safety, security, and resilience of our communities in times of crisis. From natural disasters, large-scale cyber attacks, public health emergencies and anything in between, these dedicated professionals are the unsung heroes who coordinate preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to safeguard lives and property.
This week honors the service and commitment of emergency management professionals and recognizes their contributions to the lives, health, and safety of all who live, visit, and do business in the commonwealth.
