Writing is a vital skill, and one that lots of people stress over. Getting better doesn’t mean forcing yourself to use fancy words and a formal tone, or struggling to always say things “the right way” (whatever that is). The best way of improving as a writer is learning to sound more like yourself.

* Friday, October 9 - 1:00 to 3:00 pm (2 hours) Introduction to HTML Register Here
Have you ever wanted to create your own website but found the free online tools inaccessible? Learn how to make a static web page where you can write a blog, share information with family and friends, create an online journal, showcase your interests and hobbies, display information for your own business, or even write a book. Blind people create their own web pages every day by creating their websites from scratch; writing in HTML code or more specifically Hypertext Markup Language. You can do the same with some training and a little bit of creativity and ingenuity!
* Friday, October 9 - 3:00 to 5:00 pm (2 hours) Braille Instructors: Training the Trainers Presenter: Domonique Lawless, licensed Teacher of Blind Students and Orientation and Mobility Instructor
If you are a parent homeschooling your blind child who needs advice for teaching braille, or a teacher of the blind looking for fresh ideas and other braille teaching strategies, this is the series for you! Join Domonique Lawless, licensed Teacher of Blind Students and Orientation and Mobility Instructor, as we discuss ways to help your Braille readers gain success and develop a love of reading.
As opposed to our Virtual Trainings, which are single events, Friday In-Depth Training Series classes meet for multiple sessions, and are designed to give students and instructors more time to delve into the topics presented. They will meet on Friday afternoons from either 1 pm to 3 pm or 3 pm to 5 pm. Make sure to register quickly as each series is limited to 10 participants. If you have any questions about the registration process for the Friday In-Depth Training Series, please contact Greg Chittum at 804-371-3204 or greg.chittum@dbvi.virginia.gov.
* Multiple trainings on the same day.
