Everyday Q&A: Chesterfield's Chris Workman Helps Protect Earth, While Keeping Watchful Eye on Stars
By day, Chris Workman helps protect Chesterfield’s natural resources. As inspection and floodplain manager for the Environmental Engineering Department, he leads a team of inspectors who oversee development in the county by enforcing state and local regulations on stormwater management and erosion and sediment control.
Once the sun goes down, his head is quite literally in the clouds.
Workman has been interested in astronomy for most of his 67 years. He’s a member of the Richmond Astronomical Society and owns multiple telescopes, one of which is connected to a DSLR camera and allows him to capture stunning images of the moon, stars and other celestial bodies from his home in northern Dinwiddie County.
We caught up with Workman recently for the latest installment of Everyday Q&A, an occasional feature produced by Constituent and Media Services staff to help Chesterfield residents get to know county employees a little better.

Meet Triple C, the Ultimate Good Boy!
Triple C is a 7‑year‑old, neutered male Pitbull with a heart as big as his almost 70‑pound frame. This handsome guy is fully potty trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and already knows how to sit—especially if treats are involved (and trust us, he loves treats).
He’s an easygoing, gentle soul who gets along with other dogs and loves absolutely everyone he meets. Triple C is a certified people‑dog who soaks up attention. Snuggles, scratches, belly rubs—he’s here for all of it, and he’ll happily roll over to make sure you don’t miss a spot. He also firmly believes he might be a lap dog… and honestly, who’s going to break his heart and tell him otherwise?
Triple C is ready to settle into a cozy home where he can enjoy a soft couch, a warm family, and the retired life he so richly deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who brings calm, charm, and cuddles wherever he goes, Triple C is your guy.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

Resources and Useful Information
'1 For Schools' Referendum Will Be on Nov. 3 Election Ballot
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Chesterfield County voters will be asked whether the county should be authorized to levy an additional local retail sales tax of up to 1 percentage point.
If voters approve the referendum, the Board of Supervisors could then adopt an ordinance to levy the tax. Revenue from the tax could be used only for qualifying capital projects involving the construction or major renovation of public schools serving Chesterfield County. The tax would expire July 22, 2046.
If the additional sales tax is implemented, the board has signaled it would consider a reduction of 2 cents in the real estate tax rate and 10 cents in the personal property tax rate.
Have questions about the referendum, proposed projects or how the funding could be used? Email the 1 for Schools team.
