 Early Voting for Nov. 3 General Election Begins Friday at Central Library
 Chesterfield voters can begin casting their ballots in person for the Nov. 3 general and special elections beginning Friday, Sept. 18.
In-person early voting will be available at Central Library, 7051 Lucy Corr Blvd., from Sept. 18 through Oct. 31. Additional satellite locations will open Sunday, Oct. 18, providing voters with more opportunities to cast their ballots closer to home.
Local contests include the Dale District Board of Supervisors seat and the Clover Hill District seat on the School Board. The ballot also includes three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution and the “1 For Schools” referendum, which would dedicate revenue from an additional 1% local sales tax for Chesterfield County Public Schools capital projects.

Chesterfield Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Virginia State Parks, will host the 2026 Chesterfield Outdoor Fest from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Pocahontas State Park.
The family-friendly event celebrates the many ways residents can enjoy the outdoors across the county, with fun activities and demonstrations for all ages.
Admission is free and parking fees at the state park are free all day in observance of National Public Lands Day.

Learn About '1 For Schools' During September Meetings
The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors and School Board are hosting a series of joint meetings throughout the county this month to discuss the “1 For Schools” 1% sales tax referendum that will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. Staff will provide an overview of the referendum and break down the proposed school projects.

BOS Chair to Hold Meeting Wednesday at Midlothian MS
Board of Supervisors Chair and Midlothian District Supervisor Mark Miller will host a community meeting with Chesterfield residents Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Midlothian Middle School, providing attendees the opportunity to ask questions, share input, and hear updates on several county projects.

Submit Nominations for 2027 Sports Hall of Fame Class
Play Chesterfield, a division of the county's Sports, Visitation and Entertainment Department, is now accepting nominations for the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame, presented by SINA Experiences. Nominations must be submitted by Sunday, Nov. 15 to be considered for the Class of 2027.

Kinship Families Resource Fair Takes Place Friday
Join Aging and Disability Resources for the Kinship Families Resource Fair this Friday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beulah Recreation Center. This free event will feature kinship information, door prizes, pizza and more. Guest speaker Melissa Ackley from Mental Health Support Services will present about navigating stress at 11:30 a.m.

Upcoming Programs Part of Suicide Prevention Month
Throughout September, which is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Chesterfield is working to correct common misconceptions related to suicide and educate the public about how to support someone experiencing a mental health emergency. Two upcoming events are among the programs and resources offered by Mental Health Support Services.

Community Cup Returns Saturday, Oct. 3 at Sportsplex
Join us Saturday, Oct. 3, for a free day of soccer, food, live entertainment and family-friendly activities at River City Sportsplex. The 2026 Community Cup will bring multicultural communities and public safety agencies from across the region together to celebrate culture, build connections and enjoy a day of fun for all ages. Gates open at 9 a.m. and the event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Season 11 continues this week with the legendary Skip Castro Band playing the best in boogie-woogie rock & roll, so you'd better bring your dancing shoes. Civil War Day
Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Historic Point of Rocks
During this free event at Strachan House and Point of Rocks Civil War Hospital Site, experience much of what happened on those historic grounds through the Civil War period. Living history interpreters will tell the stories of the Strachan family and enslaved people who lived there. Other interpreters portraying the Surry Light Artillery will demonstrate artillery. Much of the event will be devoted to the Union Army's occupation of Point of Rocks of 1864. Other activities will include portrayal of surgical staff and nursing along with tours of the house and grounds, including walking in the footsteps of President Abraham Lincoln during his visit to the site in March 1865.

Say hello to Zachariah!
Zachariah is showing off his red and white fur and beautiful blue eyes in the golden hour light. He is a 60-pound, neutered male Husky. One highlight about him is that he is housetrained! He got along well with other dogs and loves to carry around a squeaky toy in his mouth. Zachariah also loves people; he is happiest when he can get scratches or give hugs. He may even sing his Husky song for you.

Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

'1 For Schools' Referendum Will Be on Nov. 3 Election Ballot
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Chesterfield County voters will be asked whether the county should be authorized to levy an additional local retail sales tax of up to 1 percentage point.
If voters approve the referendum, the Board of Supervisors could then adopt an ordinance to levy the tax. Revenue from the tax could be used only for qualifying capital projects involving the construction or major renovation of public schools serving Chesterfield County. The tax would expire July 22, 2046.
If the additional sales tax is implemented, the Board has signaled it would consider a reduction of 2 cents in the real estate tax rate and 10 cents in the personal property tax rate.

Farmers Market Open Wednesdays Through Sept. 30
Farmers markets, which support local businesses, are an important resource for communities to provide access to local fresh produce, food, horticultural goods and hygiene products.
The Chesterfield County Farmers Market is open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Sept. 30 at 6701 Mimms Loop. During season, view the county calendar and visit the market's Facebook page for weekly updates and vendor lists.
You can also visit C-Fit Community for weekly updates about food trucks scheduled to be at the farmers market.
