 Chesterfield Expands Real Estate Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled Residents
 Following a public hearing at its Aug. 26 meeting, the Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance amendment that expands eligibility for Chesterfield’s real estate tax relief program for the elderly and disabled, establishing a new 15% relief tier for qualifying households with annual income in today’s dollars between $65,401 and $80,000.
Currently, real estate tax relief is limited to Chesterfield residents age 65 and over, or those who are deemed totally and permanently disabled, with annual incomes of 65,400 and below. The new tier was approved by the board as part of the fiscal year 2027 budget and takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.
The real estate tax relief program is administered by the Commissioner of the Revenue.

Long before they were pinned with a badge or took an oath to protect and serve, 40 Chesterfield police officers found the same doorway into law enforcement through the county’s Police Service Aide (PSA) program.
Since the first academy in 2020, more than 137 PSAs have been hired. The program has evolved into a strong workforce development tool that prepares future first responders for their careers while strengthening recruitment across the county.
PSA’s work in shifts, like other public safety professionals, and are responsible for several duties including:
- Responding to calls for service that aren’t in progress
- Conducting interviews of victims and witnesses
- Collecting evidence
- Preparing detailed reports
- Assisting stranded motorists
- Directing traffic during emergencies
The job description, however, is just the beginning.

Learn About '1 For Schools' During September Meetings
The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors and School Board will host a series of joint meetings throughout the county next month to discuss the “1 For Schools” 1% sales tax referendum that will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. Staff from both the county and CCPS will provide an overview of the referendum and break down the proposed school projects.

Board of Supervisors Chair to Host Community Meeting
Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors Chair and Midlothian District Supervisor Mark Miller will host a community meeting with Chesterfield residents Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Midlothian Middle School, providing attendees the opportunity to ask questions, share input, and hear updates on several county projects.

Ettrick Fire Station to Receive Modernized Replacement
The Board of Supervisors has approved a $11.1 million construction contract for the replacement Ettrick Fire Station, one of the projects approved by voters in the 2022 bond referendum. Crews are currently operating out of an 8,000-square-foot facility that dates to the 1930s. The new, 16,800-square-foot station will be better suited to modern public safety operations.

The initial draft of a proposed update to Chesterfield's comprehensive plan, known as PlanMod, is now available for public review and comments. The comprehensive plan is a long-range policy document that shapes how land in our community develops over time. County Fair Open Through Saturday, Sept. 5
The Chesterfield County Fair Association invites you to once again take part in its beloved family tradition now through Sept. 5. You can unwind at the Grandstand, enjoy performances from musical acts, sample tasty food options and enjoy a variety of fun activities. The Midway also offers exciting rides that visitors eagerly await each year.

Signups Now Open for Fall 2026 Govt. Citizens Academy
Registration is open through Sept. 4 for the Fall 2026 Government Citizens Academy. Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Sept. 17 and concluding Nov. 12. The program helps Chesterfield residents learn about their local government's operations, programs and services and provides opportunities to offer feedback to county leaders.

Season 11 continues with Funhouse playing everything you know, but only they perform! Bring your chairs, blankets and of course, your dancing shoes, but please remember to not bring any kind of drink containers, including thermos or Tervis-type containers. They will not be allowed inside the venue.
Parks and Recreation Movie Night: Zootopia 2

Calling all pet lovers! Help Parks and Recreation support Chesterfield Animal Services with a free movie night on the big screen, featuring Zootopia 2. Meet Elly Mae!
Calling all Chihuahua lovers! If you are simply looking for a small dog because of their size, Elly Mae is likely not the one for you. She has all the usual Chihuahua quirks and would do best in a home who is familiar with the breed.
Elly Mae loves her people and will cuddle all day long. However, she isn't a fan of being crated or sharing her food. If you are aware of this and respect her boundaries, she will do just fine. She is loyal, loving, and will be your shadow. She doesn't pay any mind to other dogs- she can coexist fine with them. Elly Mae is around 3 years old and weighs 12 lbs. She will need a home with no small children.

'1 For Schools' Referendum Will Be on Nov. 3 Election Ballot
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Chesterfield County voters will be asked whether the county should be authorized to levy an additional local retail sales tax of up to 1 percentage point.
If voters approve the referendum, the Board of Supervisors could then adopt an ordinance to levy the tax. Revenue from the tax could be used only for qualifying capital projects involving the construction or major renovation of public schools serving Chesterfield County. The tax would expire July 22, 2046.
If the additional sales tax is implemented, the Board has signaled plans to offset it with a reduction of 2 cents in the real estate tax rate and 10 cents in the personal property tax rate.

Farmers Market Open Wednesdays Through Sept. 30
Farmers markets, which support local businesses, are an important resource for communities to provide access to local fresh produce, food, horticultural goods and hygiene products.
The Chesterfield County Farmers Market is open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Sept. 30 at 6701 Mimms Loop. During season, view the county calendar and visit the market's Facebook page for weekly updates and vendor lists.
You can also visit C-Fit Community for weekly updates about food trucks scheduled to be at the farmers market.
