 "1 for Schools" Would Fund Chesterfield School Construction, Maintenance
 After a formal vote by the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, July 22, county voters will be asked to consider a referendum this fall authorizing a 1% local sales tax dedicated exclusively to Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) capital projects and facility improvements.
The Nov. 4 referendum would authorize a dedicated revenue source that, under Virginia law, could only be used for school construction, renovation and major maintenance projects. The funds could not be used for operating expenses, salaries or other non-capital costs.
If voters approve the referendum, the county also plans to reduce the real estate tax rate by 2 cents and the personal property tax rate by 10 cents, offsetting a portion of the new sales tax revenue while maintaining funding for school capital needs.

During a rare evening work session at the Wednesday, June 22 Board of Supervisors meeting, the director of Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) provided an update regarding the state’s ongoing response to significant issues at the bankrupt Shoosmith Landfill.
Following his presentation, Mike Rolband took questions from the board for about an hour about conditions at the privately owned landfill, which is located in Chesterfield at the intersection of Route 10 and Lewis Road.
“The current situation is that we have to treat this leachate, we have to manage it, we have to get rid of it, we have to control the gas and we have to complete the closure,” Rolband said.

In 1970, NACo began its Achievement Awards program, recognizing impactful county government programs and services across the nation in 18 categories. Chesterfield County earned 32 awards in 2026, with one Best in Category Award in the libraries category for the Read to Recovery program.

High Tech Mannequins Innovate Medical Training
Chesterfield's Bryant & Stratton College uses innovative technology to teach nursing students. High-fidelity simulation mannequins are capable of breathing, blinking, talking, crying and simulating medical emergencies. This allows students to learn from mistakes without placing a patient at risk.

Data Center Plans Part of Tax Base Diversification Strategy
By attracting commercial projects that create good-paying jobs and bring significant capital investment, Chesterfield gradually shifting the burden for funding public services from homeowners to businesses. Google will become Chesterfield’s largest single commercial taxpayer once its first data center site in the county is operational.

Early Voting for Aug. 4 Primary Concludes Aug. 1
Early voting for Aug. 4 primary elections continues at Central Library. On the ballot are a Republican primary for U.S. Senate, Democratic primary for Virginia's 1st Congressional District, and a special Democratic primary for the Dale District seat on the Chesterfield Board of Supervisors. Early voting in the county will conclude on Aug. 1.

Say hi to Pep! This sweet girl came in to us extremely emaciated, but as you can see, she has put on some weight and continues to improve. Pep loves getting attention! Her favorite are hugs and cuddles. As you can probably guess, Pep is very food motivated and is always ready for a snack. Pep just wants love and attention and is looking for her person! Pep is a 4 year old Hound mix and she weighs about 30lbs.
