Last Wednesday, June 17, county leaders and Chesterfield Fire and EMS staff gathered to build on the history of Chester Fire Station 1, breaking ground on a new facility designed to enhance services for nearby residents.
“This morning marks an important milestone in the history of Chesterfield Fire and EMS, and the Bermuda District community,” said Battalion Chief Justin Adams. “It is a moment where we recognize the service and dedication of those who came before us, while preparing for the future needs of those we proudly serve.”
As the community continues to grow, so do the facilities that support it. In late 2027, the newly built Fire Station 1 is expected to open its doors. The approximately 15,000 square-foot station will provide a modern, purposefully built home for firefighters and emergency personnel.

Who Doesn't Love a Beignet?
Beignet came to us very thin and has thankfully put on some weight. He's a super happy boy who always has a smile on his face. Treats and food are great motivators and he already knows "sit". Beignet is still quite young, around 2-3 years old, and has an inquisitive personality. After a slower introduction, he did well with other dogs. He would do best with dogs who can match his energy, he just loves to play a lot! Beignet needs to continue to put on a few more pounds in his new home.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

Chesterfield CTE Programs Keep Winning Awards
For the sixth year in a row, career and technical education programs within Chesterfield County Public Schools again earned recognition in the CTE Creating Excellence Awards presented by the Virginia Department of Education. A statewide award and two regional awards came home with the CTE team after a June 11 ceremony:
Advisory Committee of the Year for Virginia and for Region 1 and State
The advisory committee for the radiologic technology program at CTC@Courthouse is the top advisory committee in Virginia as well as the top advisory committee in Region 1. Lisa Beard heads the radiologic technology program and has assembled a roster of industry leaders from Bon Secours, VCU Health, HCA Healthcare, OrthoVirginia and KidMed to serve on the advisory committee. They meet frequently and extend their engagement into the classroom to observe student skills firsthand, provide industry insight and ensure the curriculum aligns with industry standards.
Business and Industry Partnership Award for Region 1
The Chesterfield County Emergency Communications Center is the top business partner in Region 1. The emergency telecommunications department partners with Chesterfield County Public Schools to offer the first class of its kind in Virginia in emergency telecommunications. High school seniors learn the daily operations of a 911 center and prepare for a career in emergency communications. Students who successfully complete the training qualify to earn their certification to work as 911 dispatchers. The partnership addresses regional workforce shortages while building a strong talent pipeline for essential public safety jobs.
Reminder: Schedule Immunizations for the New School Year
This summer, families should schedule immunizations for their 4, 11 or 16-year-old students. Primary care appointments are booking several months out and families should schedule early to avoid the late-summer rush. If you do not have a primary care provider, there are options available to you. Learn more about vaccinations for Chesterfield County Public School students on the Virginia Department of Health website.
