 What makes a workplace exceptional?
For Chesterfield, the answer starts with employees and the latest feedback from the county’s workforce tells the story.
Chesterfield was recently recognized both nationally and regionally, for the fifth consecutive year, as a Top Workplace. USA TODAY Top Workplaces and the Richmond Times-Dispatch recognized companies that prioritize a people-centered culture and give employees a voice.
The awards are based entirely on a confidential, research-based employee engagement survey collected through Energage, a national employee engagement research firm. The results offer a public snapshot of the culture behind one of Virginia’s largest localities and the people who keep it running smoothly.
"This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the experiences and feedback of our employees,” said Mary Martin Selby, director of Human Resources. “We are proud to foster a culture where employees feel valued, supported, and connected to public service."
Approximately 1,850 employees participated in the survey, representing a 39.3% response rate. In total, 3,746 comments were submitted about workplace experiences, leadership, culture, and opportunities for growth.

Say Hello to Hotdog Wissle!
Meet the dog who came to our shelter with probably the most unique name we've seen- it's Hotdog Wissle (And yes- we are here for it)! He was never reclaimed by his owner. Mr. Wissle is a people person who loves to say hi to every person in a room. He LOVES toys and playing keep away, so make sure you're ready for a very playful, energetic pupper! Hotdog Wissle is a smart boy who even already knows how to sit, though he would love to get a treat in return! When he met another dog here at the shelter, he came on a little strong but then wanted to play. We think he'd do best in a home with a more submissive dog who is ready for a new playmate. Hotdog Wissle is a 2 year old neutered male Pitbull mix weighing around 45lbs.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
