Paws-itive Progress: Chesterfield Building Brighter Future for Local Animals
Grey skies and impending storms didn’t dampen spirits on Friday as community members, county leaders, and animal services staff came together to place the final structural beam on the new Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter.
“In 2014, the term ‘dog pound’ was changed to ‘animal shelter’ in Virginia state law,” said Carrie Jones, manager of Animal Services. “This new facility officially shifts Chesterfield Animal Services away from the look and feel of a dog pound to that of an animal shelter.”
The approximately 30,000-square-foot building is projected to be completed this fall and will provide high-quality services to the four-legged members of the community.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

Meet Aeropostale!
He's a 3-year-old neutered male Lab mix weighing around 55lbs who is looking for his forever home. This guy is so smart -- he already knows both "sit" and "paw." He can be a little shy when he first meets a new person, but the way to his heart is definitely food! He also has the best time when he can run around outside. You'll see him zooming around in between investigating every smell! Aeropostale met another dog here at the shelter and seemed to get along well with them! He can be on the more dominant side, so he would do best with another dog who doesn't mind if he's in charge.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
