Three Planned Hospital Projects Will Address Growing Health Care Needs in Chesterfield
The state health commissioner has approved proposals by three health systems that will double the number of hospitals in Chesterfield and expand capacity at an existing facility.
Including four other projects planned or already under construction in the county, the more than $800 million of total new investment will address growing health care needs in Virginia’s most desirable locality for new residents and businesses.
“We’re pleased the state has recognized the need for additional hospitals and medical facilities in Chesterfield,” said Dr. Joe Casey, county administrator. “People continue to be drawn here by our exceptional quality of life, which can only be enhanced by increasing access to high-quality health care. That’s why our local government leaders advocated so strongly on behalf of each of these projects.”
There are currently two hospitals in Chesterfield: Johnston-Willis Hospital on Midlothian Turnpike and St. Francis Medical Center on Charter Colony Parkway.

After 50 Years of Service, Goddard Still Committed to Chesterfield's Future
It was summer 1975, the age of disco and bell bottoms, when the United Nations held its first World Conference on Women. Despite major cultural and political shifts, including the end of the Vietnam War, it marked a pivotal year for women’s rights globally.
During that same year, Evelyn Goddard walked through Chesterfield’s doors as an employee for the first time.
The U.S. was still reeling from Watergate, a scandal that had shaken public trust in government at every level and approximately 214 million Americans were trying to find their footing again to rebuild confidence in institutions, and each other.
In Chesterfield County, where the population stood at just 101,994, life felt both smaller and more connected. Government wasn’t a distant debate in the nation’s capital or ideas shared across the globe. It was the people behind the counters, answering phones, filing paperwork, and helping neighbors navigate everyday challenges.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

Say Hi to Max!
We're looking for a very special home for our older boy Max. He came to our shelter with a severely infected mass on his leg that was so bad it had gone necrotic. The veterinarian determined that the leg needed to be amputated, so now Mr. Max is learning how to be a tripod. After a biopsy, it was determined that the mass was a benign fibroma (though it did still need to be removed for Max's health).
After such a rough life, Max is ready for his fresh start in his new forever home! He went into foster care to recover after his amputation, and now that he's feeling so much better his true personality is shining through. Max loves his toys, especially if he can play tug with them! He can be vocal at times, especially when he's playing or when he wants to go outside. He already is potty trained, and we even know that he gets along with cats courtesy of his foster family! He got along with another dog here at the shelter as well, though he would prefer a more submissive doggy sibling. Max would be so happy to find the perfect family who will love him forever and help him adjust to his new life as a tripod. Max is a 9 year old neutered male Labrador Retriever mix weighing around 50lbs.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
