County Breaks Ground on Major Upgrades to Proctors Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
The International Space Station would fit inside. So would the Statue of Liberty if it was laid on its side.
Suffice to say, the new water tank – known as a flow equalization basin – that will be constructed as the centerpiece of enhancements to Chesterfield’s Proctors Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is a big deal.
How big? Roughly the size of a football field, the concrete structure will measure about 310 feet long by 160 feet wide. It will be up to 50 feet deep and provide capacity for 12 million gallons of wastewater, while accommodating future expansion for an additional 6 million gallons of storage. Construction will require the excavation of approximately 100,000 cubic yards of soil, which is more than 7,000 dump truck loads.
“This is the largest single capital improvement project ever undertaken by the Utilities Department,” said Matt Rembold, the county’s new utilities director, during a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Chesterfield's Diaper Drive is back for its 13th year, and it needs the community’s help more than ever to collect newly packaged baby diapers and wipes.
As part of the drive, residents and businesses are encouraged to purchase new, unopened packages of diapers to assist hundreds of families across the county and Colonial Heights enrolled with Families First – a nationally accredited program of Healthy Families America and Parents as Teachers, which provides family support services to ensure children are healthy, well-adjusted individuals ready to start school by age 5.
The drive also assists Infant & Toddler Connection of Chesterfield, which provides early intervention support and services to infants and toddlers from birth through age 2 who have delays in their development or diagnosed conditions that will most likely lead to delays.

Tactical Safety Officers Turn Blood Donations into Lifelines
In the back of Lt. Tom Perry’s truck is a resource that can mean the difference between life and death.
The Chesterfield Fire and EMS Whole Blood Program first placed low-titer O-positive whole blood with paramedics on the MedFlight helicopter and its tactical safety officers, or TSOs.
TSOs are already responsible for responding to some of the most serious calls received by the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), so the blood is strategically positioned where time matters most across Chesterfield’s 437 square miles.
“It’s a huge advancement in prehospital care,” said Perry, one of the county's three TSOs. “Years ago, we never would have imagined carrying blood in the field.”

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

Say Hello to TJ!
TJ is a 3-year-old neutered male Belgian Malinois mix weighing around 62 lbs., and he is ready to find his forever home. TJ loves spending time with his people, giving hugs and kisses in exchange for all of the pets and attention he can have. Outside time is the best time, as he'll sprint and jump all around the yard!
TJ has had some training already since he knows sit and is potty trained. He does need a little extra help with his manners -- when he gets excited, he is a typical mouthy Malinois. He'd probably do best in a home with people who have experience with the breed. TJ didn't mind meeting another dog here at the shelter, but seemed more interested in people.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
