From Street to Story: Chesterfield Renames Road After Fallen Hero

Grey clouds covered the sky outside of the new Deep Creek Middle School, 17151 Westerleigh Parkway, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, as county leaders, public safety officers, community members and the family of a fallen public servant gathered.
This was the day Chesterfield renamed a road, but in truth, it was the day they returned the heart of a hero to his community.

Happy Thanksgiving, Pecan Pie!
We hope you saved room for dessert because here is Pecan Pie! He's a 3-year-old neutered male Coonhound mix weighing around 65lbs. Just like his name, this boy is sweet as pie! He loves to lean into your legs while you're petting him! He's also a playful guy who doesn't really realize how big he is as he jumps around.
He'd love to go to a home with another dog that doesn't mind his playstyle being jumpy and dominant! Pecan Pie loves toys and will self-entertain with them for a long time- throwing them up in the air and playing fetch.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

Helping Students and Families During Thanksgiving
Thanks to the generosity of community partners, Chesterfield County Public Schools annually provides Thanksgiving baskets to students and families in need. This year, 99 families that include almost 150 students received baskets of food and other needed items.
This meaningful support was made possible by the Junior Federated Woman’s Club of Chester, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, RVA Hands Up and the McKinney-Vento Program.
“The response highlighted both the depth of need and the power of partnership,” said Dr. Tynisa Giles, coordinator of School Social Work Services. “We are incredibly thankful for these ongoing collaborations and the compassion shown to our families.”
