LEGO Marks Milestone in Construction of Chesterfield Manufacturing Facility
Adorned with an evergreen tree made of LEGO bricks and inscribed with dozens of signatures, a yellow steel beam was hoisted skyward by crane and into the hands of waiting construction workers last Wednesday, Oct. 30 at Chesterfield’s Meadowville Technology Park.
Back on the ground, Gov. Glenn Youngkin, county and state leaders, and officials with The LEGO Group offered enthusiastic applause and exchanged handshakes at the conclusion of a topping-out ceremony for the Danish company’s 1.7-million-square-foot precision manufacturing facility.
The event, a tradition in the construction industry, marked the placement of the final structural beam in the plant’s main production building.
“It’s incredible to witness what is being created here. It feels like we’re constructing our own massive LEGO set right before our eyes,” said Tyren Frazier, manager of social responsibility for LEGO, during remarks earlier in the ceremony.

In partnership with the county's Virginia 250th Committee, Chesterfield Parks and Recreation unveiled three new interpretive signs that highlight Chesterfield’s pivotal role in the American Revolution during an event last Saturday, Oct. 4 at historic Castlewood.
The Castlewood site served as a Continental Army barracks from 1780 to 1781, housing more than 1,000 Virginia recruits before they headed off to fight in the Revolutionary War.
Saturday's program began with the sign unveiling, followed by 18th-century living history, fife and drum music, reenactors and an exhibit on the history of the barracks inside Castlewood.
