 Regional Recovery Day Offers Support, Resources for People Dealing with Substance-Use Disorder
Hundreds of participants, including a number of Chesterfield County staff members, took part in the second annual Regional Recovery Day on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at the Henrico Sports and Events Center.
Presented by the counties of Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover and the city of Richmond, the free event included more than 80 vendors from across the region as part of a community resources fair.
It also featured keynote speaker Dr. Stephen Lloyd, a person in long-term recovery who serves as the vice president of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners and was the inspiration behind the main character in the Hulu limited series “Dopesick.”

 During September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month, Chesterfield County and the Chesterfield Suicide Awareness and Prevention Coalition are once again working to raise awareness about suicide and educating the public about the resources that exist in mental health emergencies, particularly for those who are dealing with addiction.
The public is invited to attend Chesterfield Mental Health’s Mental Health and Recovery Resource Fair on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 3-7 p.m. at Beulah Recreation Center to learn about local resources related to Mental Health and Recovery.

Registration is now open for the 2025 James River Regional Cleanup, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at multiple locations along the river, including the boat landing in Chesterfield's Dutch Gap Conservation Area. Join us for a day of service.

Guest speaker Claudia Perez from Greater Richmond SCAN will present about kinship support groups in the area. Participating organizations include Chesterfield County Public Schools, Juvenile Justice Services, Mental Health Support Services and Social Services.

Meet Bingley!
Take a look at Mr. Bingley! This cutie pie is still figuring out how to be a puppy, but he already knows he loves attention and toys! He'll still need your typical puppy training and when he met another dog here at the shelter, all he wanted to do was play! He'd probably love having a doggy sibling who can keep up with his excitement for playtime! Bingley is 6 months old and weighs around 57lbs.

Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

LINK, the on-demand microtransit service from GRTC, is now available in the Clover Dale Zone.
LINK runs Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-8 p.m., connecting you anywhere in your community. Simply download the GRTC on the Go app and select your pick-up and drop-off locations anywhere within our service area, and we’ll be there within 20 minutes to get you where you need to go.
The Clover Dale Zone provides quick and convenient service along Hull Street Road from Chippenham Mall to Harbourside Centre, with direct connection to downtown Richmond via GRTC’s Route 1C and 82x.   James River High Teacher Wins the Angelique Clarke Social Studies Teacher Leader Award
James River High teacher Keenan Entsminger was surprised Aug. 12 with the Angelique Clarke Social Studies Teacher Leader Award. Department chair, professional learning community lead and National History Day coordinator, Entsminger was praised as “a tireless advocate for students, colleagues and the betterment of his school community” who “leads with compassion and competence.”
Sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union, the award is given annually in memory of CCPS social studies teacher Angelique Clarke, who exemplified the characteristics of servant leadership as she helped students find success in school and in life.
Three Chesterfield Schools Named National PTA Schools of Excellence
Moseley Elementary, Spring Run Elementary and Salem Church Middle have been named National PTA Schools of Excellence for 2024-26. This designation celebrates strong partnerships between local PTAs and their schools that enrich the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. Across the United States, only 330 PTAs and schools achieved this designation for 2024-26.
A total of 14 Chesterfield schools and PTAs have achieved recognition as National PTA Schools of Excellence: Chesterfield Virtual School, Clover Hill Elementary, Crestwood Elementary, Ecoff Elementary, Gordon Elementary, Moseley Elementary, Robious Elementary, Spring Run Elementary, Bailey Bridge Middle, Falling Creek Middle, Robious Middle, Salem Church Middle, Swift Creek Middle and Meadowbrook High.

Registration now Open for Free PSAT and SAT Prep Sessions
Chesterfield County Public Schools is offering preparation courses for the PSAT and SAT for current 9th- 12th graders enrolled at CCPS. Sessions will take place Sept. 22-25, 2025. The deadline to register for these opportunities is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The PSAT Academy is free and open to Chesterfield County Public Schools high school students who want to prepare for the PSAT exam that high schools administer for free each October. The academy includes two days of math review and two days of reading and writing review. The PSAT Academy does not require a book. Register for the PSAT Academy.
The SAT Academy is free and available to Chesterfield County Public Schools high school students who want to prepare for college entrance exams. While there is no cost for the academy, students must purchase and bring to class this study guide from the store or online site of their choice: Princeton Review Digital SAT Premium Prep, 2025 (ISBN 9780593517529). Register for the SAT Academy.
