Chesterfield Recognized With 40 NACo Achievement Awards
The National Association of Counties (NACo) has recognized Chesterfield County as the winner of 40 Achievement Awards.
The NACo Achievement Awards, which have been around since 1970, recognize noteworthy county government programs and services in 18 different categories. Chesterfield won 32 NACo awards last year.
“Winning 40 NACo Awards highlights our employees' dedication to public service and commitment to going above and beyond to improve our community,” said Chesterfield County Administrator Dr. Joe Casey. “I’m incredibly proud of our work to ensure Chesterfield remains a First Choice Community for all who live, learn, work, play, and do business here."
“The Board of Supervisors congratulates departments honored with NACo Achievement Awards,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Jim Ingle (Bermuda District). “I am especially delighted with NACo’s recognition of Community Conversations, a concept for engaging residents that grew out of my desire to meet residents in a casual environment in which we could have honest, in-depth conversations. It and all other programs recognized reflect Chesterfield’s commitment to raising the bar on how we deliver local government services and programs.”

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

|
Say hello to Freeze Dance!
Freeze Dance says he would love to dance on home with you! He's a Hound mix, around 5 years old, and weighs 42 lbs. He's a total goofball and was incredibly difficult to get a great photo of! He immediately just drops to the ground and does army crawls or rolls over onto his back for lovins'.
He just wants ALL the love. Freeze Dance doesn't really care too much about toys, he's more interested in affection. He was a little timid about meeting another dog, but did well and seemed pretty interested in being friends after saying hello. He did test positive for heartworms but has been started on treatment which we will send home with you. For this reason, his adoption fee has been lowered to $10.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

Connect with a 9-1-1 Dispatcher Using Prepared Live
Heads up, Chesterfield! The county's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has launched Prepared Live.
This software enables the 9-1-1 dispatch center to receive live streams, multimedia and location information from mobile callers in real time. It greatly improves situational awareness for first responders and ensures that appropriate resources are dispatched to handle emergencies.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher, enabling them to activate live video upon click.
It’s also important to note that the video call function does not provide Chesterfield ECC with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
To learn more about this technology and how it can benefit you in an emergency, visit the county website.

Bird High Hovercraft Event Never Disappoints
At the end of each school year, Bird High students in the Governor’s Academy for Engineering Studies work for weeks to build hovercraft they can race in the school gym. This inventive, competitive, often hilarious tradition brings together teams of students who choose creative themes for their leaf-blower-powered designs.
During the two-day hovercraft extravaganza, costumed students navigate their hovercraft through a slalom course and compete in races against other teams in front of a live audience. The most successful teams balance speed with the ability to steer their floating vehicles at the turnaround point.
