Chesterfield Breaks Ground on First New High School in More Than Two Decades
Community members, county officials, and school leaders gathered last Wednesday, June 18 to celebrate the start of construction on a new high school in the western Route 360 corridor.
Located at 17500 Duval Road, the tentatively named West Area High School will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including two full-size gymnasiums, a 3,500-seat stadium, specialized arts and career education classrooms, and dedicated special education space. Outdoor athletic facilities will include baseball and softball diamonds, ample parking, and gathering spaces to support school and community events.
The groundbreaking marked the culmination of years of planning and public engagement and is one of the most significant capital improvement projects in Chesterfield’s history. The new high school was one of several projects overwhelmingly approved by voters in the 2022 bond referendum.

Introducing Perry the Platypus!
Perry the Platypus is an almost 80 lb. Shepherd mix. He is around 5 years old and loves to play outdoors and meet new friends (both people and dogs). He isn't too interested in toys — he far prefers the company of others and going on adventure walks. We think he would love to go to a home with other dogs that he can play with.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

Resources and Useful Information
Connect with a 9-1-1 Dispatcher Using Prepared Live
Heads up, Chesterfield! The county's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has launched Prepared Live.
This software enables the 9-1-1 dispatch center to receive live streams, multimedia and location information from mobile callers in real time. It greatly improves situational awareness for first responders and ensures that appropriate resources are dispatched to handle emergencies.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher, enabling them to activate live video upon click.
It’s also important to note that the video call function does not provide Chesterfield ECC with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
To learn more about this technology and how it can benefit you in an emergency, visit the county website.
