Beulah Recreation Complex Dedicated in Honor of Longtime Supervisor Jim Holland
During a ceremony Wednesday, May 7, Chesterfield recognized Dale District Supervisor Jim Holland’s nearly two decades of service by dedicating a county recreation complex – which includes both the Beulah Recreation Center and adjacent Beulah Park currently under construction -- in his name.
With the unsuspecting guest of honor watching on a video screen inside the center’s large multipurpose room along with his wife, Judith, and several other invited guests, two county employees unveiled the new outdoor sign for the James M. Holland Recreation Complex at Beulah.
“It’s a huge honor. I’m forever humbled and grateful,” said Holland, who was first elected to represent the Dale District on the Board of Supervisors in November 2007. “When you have your name on anything, you have to live up to it.”

Resources and Useful Information
Connect with a 9-1-1 Dispatcher Using Prepared Live
Heads up, Chesterfield! The county's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has launched Prepared Live.
This software enables the 9-1-1 dispatch center to receive live streams, multimedia and location information from mobile callers in real time. It greatly improves situational awareness for first responders and ensures that appropriate resources are dispatched to handle emergencies.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher, enabling them to activate live video upon click.
It’s also important to note that the video call function does not provide Chesterfield ECC with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
To learn more about this technology and how it can benefit you in an emergency, visit the county website.

Final Beam Placed in Construction of New Bensley ES
Last Monday, May 5, Chesterfield County Public Schools marked a major milestone in the construction of the new Bensley Elementary School with a topping-off ceremony, a time-honored tradition in the construction industry that celebrates the placement of the final structural beam.
Signed by school staff and students, as well as members of the School Board and Board of Supervisors, the beam was adorned with symbols including an evergreen tree to symbolize good luck, safe completion and a wish for continued growth. A broom represented a "clean sweep," signifying no loss of life during the construction process, while the American flag signified patriotism and hard work of the construction crew.
The new Bensley Elementary School is part of a larger community facilities plan made possible by the 2022 bond referendum approved by Chesterfield County voters. Funded through Virginia Public School Authority bonds, the $52 million project will nearly double the school’s capacity — from 575 to 1,000 students — and provide a modern learning environment tailored to 21st-century education.
