 Six High School Seniors Recognized with Leadership for the 21st Century Scholarships
 Chesterfield County and Chesterfield County Public Schools, in partnership with Virginia State University, presented six local high school seniors with Leadership for the 21st Century scholarships last Friday, March 21, during the annual Black History Month Breakfast and Scholarship Recognition Program.
The event, which was postponed last month because of snow, took place at VSU’s Gateway Dining and Event Center.
The six winners were awarded $2,500 scholarships, with one selected from each of the county’s five magisterial districts and the sixth chosen from a regional governor school:
- Bermuda District: Alexa Sneed, Thomas Dale High School
- Clover Hill District: Nathan McCrea, Clover Hill High School
- Dale District: Munachimso Njoku, L.C. Bird High School
- Matoaca District: Layla Petit, Cosby High School
- Midlothian District: William Jackson, Midlothian High School
- Regional: Sophia Watson, Maggie Walker Governor’s School

BOS Holding Public Hearing on FY26 Budget Wednesday
The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors will meet on Wednesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room, 10001 Iron Bridge Road. The public is invited to comment on the county's proposed fiscal year 2026 budget and five-year capital improvement program, as well as local tax rates for calendar year 2025.

More than 50 local establishments are participating in this year's event April 4-13, including restaurants, wineries, breweries, dessert shops and more. The Chesterfield Diaper Drive is back for its 12th year and we need the community’s help more than ever to collect newly packaged baby diapers and wipes. It benefits families enrolled in Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Families First and Infant and Toddler Connection of Chesterfield.

 Submit Nominations for 2025 Sr. Volunteer Hall of Fame
Nominations are now open for the 2025 Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame, which celebrates local seniors who have rendered outstanding services to their community. To qualify, nominees must be at least 60 years old and reside in Chesterfield County. Nominations are due by April 18.

 Rent a Community Garden Plot at Rockwood Park
Chesterfield Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications to rent plots in the renovated community gardens at Rockwood Park. Plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The 2025 season will open for gardening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony next Tuesday, April 1.

 Attend Earth Day Festival April 12 at Fairgrounds
Join a host of environmentally savvy county departments, local organizations and businesses during Chesterfield's third annual Earth Day Festival.The free, family-friendly event will be held Saturday, April 12 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road.

Calling all sports enthusiasts and athletes! We are excited and proud to announce that nominations are open for the Chesterfield Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Established last year, the Sports Hall of Fame pays tribute to athletic greats who have contributed to the county’s rich sports history and legacy.

 High School Students from Across Region Come Together in Richmond for Third Annual Teen Summit
The third annual Teen Summit RVA, a day-long leadership event for high school students, took place last Saturday, March 22 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. The summit brings together students from across central Virginia to participate in creative activities, gain leadership experience, connect with peers and explore job opportunities.
Created for youth by youth, teens are given a platform to amplify their voices against community violence and create a pathway for positive change.

Meet Pluto, He's Out of This World!
Pluto is a 2-year-old neutered male Pitbull mix and weighs about 55 lbs. Like the Disney dog he is named after, Pluto is happy, playful and carefree! He is very treat-motivated and has already mastered the sit command. Pluto loves toys and when he jumps for all of his paws leave the floor. Pluto would be great for movie time; he really loves being on couches and chairs. If Pluto sounds like just the pup you have been looking for, give us a call and come and meet him today!

 Report Illicit Discharges to County's Storm Sewer System
Chesterfield’s stormwater ordinance prohibits unmanaged and intentional non-stormwater discharges to the county’s storm sewer system, including the disposal of leaves. It also prohibits connecting any structure or device that conveys any liquid other than stormwater to the county’s storm sewer system without prior authorization.
What classifies as illicit discharge?
- Automotive fluids
- Herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers
- Paints, solvents, and household chemicals
- Pet waste
- Sewage
- Yard waste, grass clippings, and leaves

 Bee-lieve in Harper! Middle Schooler Set to Spell at Nationals
At the central Virginia spelling bee on March 12, Robious Middle eighth-grader Harper C. outperformed 25 other accomplished spellers to punch her ticket to the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.
Harper’s win came in the 20th round after she and Henrico County’s top speller were the last two standing for several rounds. After Harper correctly spelled “bavette” and the other student missed “welkin,” Harper won a trip to the national competition by correctly spelling “Taurus.”
This is the second straight year that the top speller in Chesterfield County Public Schools has won the regional bee and gone on to compete nationally.

Introducing the New CCPS Champion Card
The Champion Card, formerly the Super Senior Passport, is for Chesterfield residents who are at least 60 years old, retirees of CCPS, or partners whose work directly benefits county students. Champion Card holders enjoy free admission to athletic events, music and theater productions and other school activities. They also receive reduced fees for adult education classes and get opportunities for other events coordinated by CCPS.
CCPS is hosting sign-up events throughout the month for new applicants. Those who already have a Super Senior Passport are encouraged to update it to a Champion Card at one of our events this month.
