County Announces Agreement to Bring Auto Racing Back to Historic Southside Speedway
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Chesterfield County and Competitive Racing Investments LLC, or CRI, formally announced a finalized 20-year ground lease-to-purchase agreement for the purpose of bringing auto racing back to the shuttered Southside Speedway.
County officials and CRI representatives joined many members of the local racing community for the public announcement at the Genito Road facility known as “The Toughest Short Track in the South.”
Stock-car racing legends such as Richard Petty, Junior Johnson, Darrell Waltrip, Bobby Allison, Wendell Scott and many others frequently competed at the 1/3-mile oval. Current NASCAR Cup Series star and former Chesterfield resident Denny Hamlin grew up racing at Southside and even hosted his Short Track Showdown there from 2008 to 2010.

Proposed FY2026 Utilities Budget Meets Growing Demand While Keeping Customers' Rates Competitive
As an enterprise fund that is wholly sustained by payments from customers, Chesterfield’s Department of Utilities continues to invest in servicing its robust infrastructure and meeting both current and future demand, all while maintaining the most competitive water and wastewater rates in the Richmond region.
By establishing strong financial policies to ensure it has adequate funding for necessary maintenance, replacement and expansion projects, Chesterfield also is one of just nine water and wastewater utilities in the nation to hold a Triple-AAA bond rating.
“That group continues to get smaller, which makes us even prouder of the accomplishment,” said George Hayes, the county’s Utilities director.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

|
Here is Bob!
Bob is a 3-year-old neutered male Beagle mix who weighs about 23lbs. Bob is a spunky little guy who never stops moving. He is very food motivated so he should be easy to teach! Bob loves being with people and overall did well meeting other dogs, but he was very dominant during the meetings. Hopefully, now that he is neutered, the dominance will settle down and go away. Bob loves playing tug with toys and is a vocal player so you may hear some growling, but that is just his play style!
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
