Proposed FY2026 Utilities Budget Meets Growing Demand While Keeping Customers' Rates Competitive
As an enterprise fund that is wholly sustained by payments from customers, Chesterfield’s Department of Utilities continues to invest in servicing its robust infrastructure and meeting both current and future demand, all while maintaining the most competitive water and wastewater rates in the Richmond region.
By establishing strong financial policies to ensure it has adequate funding for necessary maintenance, replacement and expansion projects, Chesterfield also is one of just nine water and wastewater utilities in the nation to hold a Triple-AAA bond rating.
“That group continues to get smaller, which makes us even prouder of the accomplishment,” said George Hayes, the county’s Utilities director, during a work session at the Feb. 26 Board of Supervisors meeting.
