Netflix Film Shines Spotlight on Charity Adams' Trailblazing Military Leadership
Major Charity E. Adams served as commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only U.S. Women’s Army Corps unit of color deployed to Europe during World War II.
The 855 women in the 6888th were sent overseas in 1944 and given six months to accomplish a seemingly insurmountable task: Processing a massive backlog of undelivered mail, about 17 million pieces in total, which either had been sent by American soldiers on the battlefield to their loved ones back home or vice versa.
Despite facing racism, sexism and difficult living and working conditions, the 6888th persevered and accomplished its mission in just 90 days.
Last December, Netflix released The Six Triple Eight, a critically acclaimed feature film written and directed by Tyler Perry and starring Kerry Washington as Adams.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

From Zero to Hero!
Zero to Hero sure does have the comeback story to go with the name. He came to us in terrible condition and incredibly emaciated. Since then, he has returned to full health. He has beautiful, piercing eyes. He does well with other dogs and is very outgoing. We are so proud of the progress he has made and want to find a forever home who will treat him like the hero he is. He's a Husky mix, about a year old.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
