For the Schiltzes, Pinball Wizardry is a Family Thing
Dale Schiltz played a fair amount of pinball as a student at Virginia Tech – every bar in Blacksburg had at least one or two machines – but at the time, it was nothing more than having a little fun at 25 cents a pop.
More than 20 years later, he was looking for a new hobby to fill his spare time when a friend told him about the Richmond Pinball Collective that had opened on Midlothian Turnpike in 2017. He joined about 2½ years ago and has been hooked on pinball ever since.
Dale's 13-year-old son, Stoller, won his first tournament just three months after he began playing competitively. He now has five tournament victories to his father’s one.
“He’s ranked higher than me in the world after one year,” Dale said with a laugh.
