Chesterfield Providing 5% Credit on June Real Estate Tax Bills
As it did in 2023 at the direction of the Board of Supervisors, Chesterfield is using surplus revenue from the prior fiscal year to apply a 5% credit on all real estate tax bills due this June.
The board will reallocate $15 million — or approximately half of the county’s operating surplus from FY2024 — to provide the credit, which will save the average homeowner about $150 to $200 on first-half 2025 real estate taxes.
This action is the most effective way to bring direct tax relief without incurring burdensome administrative expenses.
It’s the latest element of an ongoing, broad-based initiative by the board and county administration to mitigate the adverse impact of rising costs on household budgets.

Dr. John Murray Appointed as Superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools
|
|
The Chesterfield School Board has appointed Dr. John Murray as the new superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools, effective Jan. 17. After a nationwide recruitment, Dr. Murray was selected for his commitment to academic excellence, exceptional leadership skills and innovative vision.
Dr. Murray is the first superintendent since at least 1921 to have been a student in Chesterfield County Public Schools. He attended Chalkley Elementary, Jacobs Road Elementary and Manchester Middle before graduating from Manchester High.
His selection came after a months-long search that included multiple opportunities for input from families, school employees and community partners. That input showed that Chesterfield County wants as superintendent a strong, exceptional educational leader who is engaging and collaborative and who connects with all stakeholders to build on the school district’s academic success.

Connect with a 9-1-1 Dispatcher Using Prepared Live
Heads up, Chesterfield! The county's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has launched Prepared Live.
This software enables the 9-1-1 dispatch center to receive live streams, multimedia and location information from mobile callers in real time. It greatly improves situational awareness for first responders and ensures that appropriate resources are dispatched to handle emergencies.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher, enabling them to activate live video upon click.
It’s also important to note that the video call function does not provide Chesterfield ECC with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
