Following the power outage and subsequent flooding at the City of Richmond’s water plant on Monday, Jan. 6, Chesterfield County’s water remains safe to consume and its water supply levels remain normal.
On Monday morning at approximately 7 a.m., Chesterfield Utilities was alerted to the power outage at the Richmond facility and was asked to limit water usage from the city while they assessed the situation since Chesterfield has multiple water sources. Chesterfield began the process of transitioning off that supply to help the city maintain its limited water capacity. This response is standard for Chesterfield Utilities in these types of situations.
Later in the day, around 2:45 p.m. during a regional call, Chesterfield was made aware that the City of Richmond water plant remained offline and water tank reserves were continuing to decline. At that time, Chesterfield Utilities isolated its water distribution system from the City of Richmond’s water supply by shutting down all three points of entry into the county. That process was completed by 4 p.m. and the county’s water supply was isolated before the city announced its conservation and boil advisory.

County Launching School Zone Speed Enforcement Camera Program
|
|
Chesterfield County is installing school zone speed enforcement cameras to protect students and enhance road safety. These cameras will be deployed across the county to ensure drivers follow posted speed limits in active school zones, creating a safer environment for children.
Following the installation of each camera, a 30-day warning period will begin to allow drivers to adjust their behavior. During this time, violators will receive warnings instead of citations when their vehicles are documented going more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit in an active school zone. This grace period aims to educate drivers and encourage compliance with speed limits, enhancing safety without immediate penalties.
For the latest updates on implementation dates and locations, please visit our Traffic Safety Concerns and Enforcement page.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

Calling all experienced Husky lovers!
Cranberry is a beautiful, red and white Husky, around 6 years old, and weighs 65 lbs. Like most Huskies, he's quite vocal and loves to go outside to explore. Kicking up dirt is his favorite. It makes him feel so macho. He does well with other dogs though he is more on the dominant side. He loves to "talk back" to you happily.
Because he has typical Husky behaviors that can easily be misread and needs somebody to be his pack leader, we are looking for experienced Husky owners only and a home with no children.
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.

 Schools Remain Closed on Wednesday
Chesterfield schools will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 8 because of ongoing impacts from Sunday's winter storm.
Whenever inclement weather occurs, Chesterfield County Public Schools officials remain in close contact with the county's Transportation and Police departments to assess road conditions.
While main roads are clear, lingering snow and ice patches remain on some neighborhood and rural roads and very low temperatures mean that conditions are not likely to improve overnight.
