Chesterfield Opens Four New, Lighted Turf Fields at River City Sportsplex
Members of the Board of Supervisors joined county staff last Wednesday, Nov. 27, at a ceremonial ribbon-cutting for four new, lighted turf fields at River City Sportsplex.
As one of the nation’s most sought-after tournament destinations, the county-owned River City Sportsplex welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. The expansion to 16 fields will not only meet residents’ increased demand for athletic field access, but also give tournament operators the opportunity to grow their events while increasing the economic impact on Chesterfield's hospitality community.
Funding for construction of the four new fields was part of the $540 million bond referendum package that was overwhelmingly approved in November 2022. Additional facility improvements coming in 2025 include additional parking, a large destination play area with a splash pad and a universal playground, a picnic area, and a 5k trail system, as well as restrooms, shade structures at the fields and other amenities for participants and spectators to enjoy.

Adoptable Pet Spotlight

|
Arbys is his name!
Arbys sure is stoic, isn't he? He's a tough guy who is so handsome! He loves to run, play and will take all the toys. Arbys is around 2 years old, a Lab mix, and weighs 80 lbs.
He's really just a big goof. When meeting other dogs here at the shelter, he did fine with other dogs who let him be the boss (or at least think he's the boss).
If you are interested in meeting this pet, please contact Chesterfield County Animal Services at 804-748-1683, option "2," to schedule an appointment. Office staff are available by phone 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Our shelter is located at 9300 Public Works Road.
