Chesterfield Breaks Ground on New West Area Elementary School
County and school leaders broke ground Monday, Nov. 18 on a new elementary school in Chesterfield’s western Route 360 corridor.
The school, which is being referred to as the west area elementary until a formal naming later, will have a capacity of 1,000 students in kindergarten through fifth grades. It’s intended to bring significant relief to nearby schools – particularly Moseley and Grange Hall – when it opens in August 2026.
The new school will be built with the same two-story prototype design that’s being used for replacements of A.M. Davis and Bensley elementaries. All three schools were part of the November 2022 bond referendum that was overwhelmingly approved by Chesterfield voters.

Connect with a 9-1-1 Dispatcher Using Prepared Live
Heads up, Chesterfield! The county's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) has launched Prepared Live.
This software enables the 9-1-1 dispatch center to receive live streams, multimedia and location information from mobile callers in real time. It greatly improves situational awareness for first responders and ensures that appropriate resources are dispatched to handle emergencies.
Participation in video during a call is completely voluntary and consent of the caller is required. If the caller consents, they will receive a livestream link via text from the dispatcher, enabling them to activate live video upon click.
It’s also important to note that the video call function does not provide Chesterfield ECC with access to the contents or settings of a caller’s phone.
To learn more about this technology and how it can benefit you in an emergency, visit the county website.
