Kids Test Kitchen - In Person! Ages 5-12
Parents report that kids come home from Kids’ Test Kitchen EXCITED about fresh ingredients and new recipes! Reluctant eaters learn that food is safe and fun! Then, working as a team, they’ll slice, dice, peel, measure and cook until they’ve prepared the finished dish. Class closes with an opportunity to taste the result of their hard work. Participants receive a printed recipe card and the focal ingredient - or a sample of the finished dish - so they can show off what they learned! Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy Kids’ Test Kitchen, where participation is encouraged, and the choice to taste is always one’s own. Lessons are planned to celebrate seasonal produce, whole grains and legumes. Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. We know allergies and can work around them, making sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe. All food, equipment and instruction is provided and is included in the class cost. Register by January 20.

Baton Twirling Ages 3+
This class offers participants the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of baton twirling and will cover basic techniques, novelty tricks and choreography. Participants will learn to twirl recreationally in a safe and inclusive environment, while developing lifelong skills. The sport of baton twirling is a fun and unique art for children of all ages and a great way to tech poise, hand-eye coordination, technique, marching, parades and more. This class will help build self-esteem, encourage teamwork, stay fit-physical fitness, teach sportsmanship, dedication, self-motivation and children will have fun! Register by February 27.

Utah Concealed Carry Ages 21+
The Utah Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) is one of the most sought-after permits because with it law-abiding citizens may legally carry a firearm concealed in 39 states. The Utah CFP course is classroom based and taught by NRA certified & Utah BCI certified instructors. Course instruction includes the following topics: Utah criminal and traffic code, U.S. federal firearms regulations, BCI administration policy, practical and legal considerations and more. Although this is NOT a live fire course and range time is not required, participants are encouraged to cultivate their marksmanship skills by scheduling one-on-one firearms training at the range with a qualified instructor. Class cost includes a course completion certificate, instruction on obtaining your FBI fingerprinting (which is required by the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification) and passport photo service to help expedite the submitting of your application. Each course participant packet contains course handouts of material covered, a blue FBI fingerprint card and a Utah Non-Resident CFP application. Any U.S. citizen may apply for a non-resident Utah CFP after taking this required course. Before applying for the Utah CFP, you must obtain a concealed carry permit from your home state. Once applying for the Utah CFP a criminal background check will be conducted. Please do not bring guns to class. Register at least one week before the start of class.

NRA Firearm Safety Course Ages 18+
This is a five-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling, primary causes of firearms accidents, firearm parts, how to load and unload certain action types, ammunition components, cleaning, care, safe storage of firearms and ammunition and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive a course completion certificate. Safety comes before all else. This class will meet requirements for the Virginia Concealed Carry Permit. Instructor also has extensive knowledge of the Criminal and Civil Liabilities pertaining to CCW Permit holders while carrying concealed and if you are forced to defend yourself with your firearm. Please do not bring guns to class. Instructor is Jim Wood, NRA Certified Instructor. Register at least one week before start of class.

Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Ages 12+
Learn to perform lifesaving care for adults, children and infants in this hands on American Red Cross course. Participants will learn to administer CPR, use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and first aid skills to care for sudden illnesses, bleeding emergencies and other common injuries and illnesses. Successful course completion results in a 2-year certification from the American Red Cross. Be prepared for a health emergency! Register by January 19.

Home Buying Made Simple Ages 18+
This class will cover everything you need to know when it comes to buying a home, whether it’s your first or retirement home. We will cover credit scores and history, loan programs, down payment assistance and more. This program will walk through the steps of the home buying process and the details to think about before you make the decision to purchase a home. This is an informational class only and is designed to be a safe, non-threating way to get information on important home buying topics. No loan plans can be discussed during the class. Register by February 4.

This is often the most difficult stage of any of the dementias for care partners to deal with the transition. Resources seem limited, behaviors more erratic and life in general seems more chaotic. This class will offer survival tips and ways to make this transition easier for everyone. Register by January 7.

Medicare Workshop Ages 25+
Have you found that choosing the right Medicare coverage for you can be overwhelming? Whether you have Medicare or are trying to understand the various parts we can help! During this educational session you will learn about: Parts of Medicare A, B, C, & D, Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage and when to enroll in Medicare. All of your questions will be answered to help you have a better understanding of Medicare. Now is the time to consider all your options. Making an informed Medicare choice is empowering. This is an informational workshop only and is designed to be a safe, non-threating way to get information on important Medicare topics. No Medicare plans can be purchased during the workshop. AARP Smart Driver Ages 50+
AARP Smart Driver is a driver improvement course specially designed for motorists age 50 and older to help drivers refine existing skills and develop safe, defensive driving techniques. Graduates of the course may be eligible to receive a discount on their auto insurance premiums (check with your insurance agent to determine eligibility). AAPR Members please bring your membership card to class as this will be checked upon arrival. Register by January 29.

Tai Chi Ages 60+
Slow, controlled movements build strength, improve balance, free up stiff joints and relieve stress. Safe and effective techniques taught by certified instructor. Maggie Lena Walker devoted her life to civil rights advancement, economic empowerment and educational opportunities for Jim Crow-era African Americans and women. As a bank president, newspaper editor and fraternal leader, Walker served as an inspiration of pride and progress. Join us as we head to the Hampton Roads Convention Center for the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival (MAQF). The Merchants Mall will feature everything for quilt, fiber, wearable and textile artists as well as the home sewers. In addition, MAQF will present the finest collection of quilt, garment and fiber art exhibitions including quilt and wearable art prize money competitions.
