August 4, 2026 Dual Primary Election
What's on the Ballot
Arlington will have a dual party primary election, which means both the Democratic Party and Republican Party will have primaries on the same day.
The Democratic Party Primary is being held for Member, U.S. House of Representatives-8th District and County Board (1 seat). The County Board race will be ranked choice voting style, and voters may rank up to three candidates in order of preference. Read more about ranked choice voting in Arlington.
The Republican Party Primary is being held for Member, U.S. Senate.

Who Can Vote
Registered Arlington voters may choose to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary, but not both. Virginia is an open primary state, meaning that voters do not register by political party. When both parties hold primaries on the same day, voters must select one party's ballot, pursuant to Virginia Code § 24.2-530. Voting in a party's primary does not mean that the voter will be "registered" with that party.
