Did You Know?

Arlington County prioritizes creating and preserving affordable housing. A recent Housing Needs Analysis reported that 38 percent of renters in Arlington are housing cost burdened, and we know that affordable housing has proven links to health, economic opportunity, and other benefits.

Arlington has no public housing authority. The County does, however, play a major role in producing and preserving affordable rental units by making loans. A County loan closes the gap between the total costs of a construction, preservation, or rehabilitation project and the funds that the project secures from other sources.

From FY2016 to FY2025, Arlington disbursed $366 million in County loan funds and received $73 million in loan repayments.

Based on the last 10 years, a dollar of County loan funds consists of General Fund allocations (44 percent), developer contributions (24 percent), loan repayments (24 percent), recordation fees (4 percent), and federal funds (3 percent).

County loans consist of funding from multiple sources, including annual allocations from the General Fund, recordation fees, developer contributions, loan repayments, and federal funds.

Common Interest Communities Education Series - Leasing a Condominium

The City of Alexandria is partnering with the law firm Mercer‑Trigiani to host free, community‑oriented workshops that support and strengthen condominium and community associations. Arlington residents are encouraged to join in, connect with neighbors across jurisdictions, and learn from experts who understand the needs of our local communities. The Office of Housing’s Common Interest Communities Education Series topic for the upcoming March 28 session is Leasing a Condominium. As always, the sessions are free, but registration is required.

All of the sessions will be held using the Zoom webinar platform. Slides and recordings of the presentation will be available on the Office of Housing website no more than two business days after the workshop. For those who missed January’s session or any of last year’s sessions, the recordings and session materials are archived online.

The dates and registration links to all the upcoming sessions are below.
