Help Design Arlington's Home Energy Program

Arlington County is designing a program to help homeowners and renters use less energy, reduce carbon emissions and improve indoor comfort and health. The County seeks your help to develop an energy program that works best for you.

Energy-Related Tax Credits Ending Soon

Many federal home energy tax credits—such as those for solar panels, electric vehicles, heat pumps and insulation—are set to expire on September 30 and December 31, 2025. Are You Considering Switching to Solar Energy?

Switch Together is a program offered with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors. Switch Together is committed to making renewable energy more affordable and accessible for everyone. During the program, you'll be matched with top solar installers. Switch Together also offers free educational webinars and in-person events designed to guide you through the process of going solar. Through the current program, the average household is expected to save $6,958 on a high-quality solar installation. It is free to register, and there is no obligation or expectation that you will purchase a system. Take advantage of this opportunity by registering by Sept. 3rd.

E-Bike Voucher Program

Thank you to all who applied to the e-bike voucher program. We received more than 2,800 applications. All applicants will be notified about the status of their application within 4 weeks.

EcoAmbassadors Program: Now Accepting Applications

EcoAmbassadors is a new climate and energy-centered volunteer training and community engagement program. Evolving from the long-standing and successful Energy Masters program, EcoAmbassadors will bring together volunteers who are passionate about helping neighbors commit to personal activities that will make neighborhoods and homes healthier and more livable. The EcoAmbassadors training is centered on the City of Alexandria Energy and Climate Change Action Plan and Arlington’s Community Energy Plan and related climate strategies. Specific focus areas include reducing energy use and electrifying the home, shifting to eco-friendly transportation choices and minimizing waste. EcoAmbassadors is managed by EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension with support from Arlington County and the City of Alexandria. Volunteers ages 16+ are encouraged to apply. The fee for the program is $110 (free for students) and the deadline for applications is September 24. An early bird discount is available for applications submitted by September 13. Save the Date! 2025 Arlington Green Community Tour

Sunday, September 14 from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

See sustainable homes and gardens in September bloom, along with rain barrels, rain gardens, solar panels, EV charging and energy efficiency measures. Bring friends, family and neighbors; get ideas and inspiration for incorporating these sustainable practices in your home, place of worship or community.

  • 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, Welcome event at Arlington Central Library is a free event featuring electric vehicles, exhibits and family-friendly fun!
  • 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm, Self-guided tour of sustainable homes and gardens in Arlington. $20 individual, $35 two people, $40 per carpool.

Event partners include EcoAction Arlington, Virginia Cooperative Extension - Master Gardeners, Arlington Regional Master Naturalists, Plant NOVA Natives, Northern Virginia Bird Alliance, Arlington Public Libraries and Arlington County’s Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management.

 

Lime, the tour's generous sponsor, provides eco-friendly transportation options to help participants experience the event. Lime will provide complimentary helmets alongside e-bike and e-scooter rentals for adults ages 18+ at the welcome event.
