Update on the North Quincy Street Facility

Feb. 21, 2025

Arlington County contractor crews will rehabilitate a 36-inch water main tunnel running beneath I-66 starting the week of March 10. The rehabilitation work will require crews to concentrate on two access shafts as shown in the map below: One located near Hidden Pond off N. Nelson St. in the grassy area near the I-66 fence in Cherrydale, and the second located near the basketball courts in Hayes Park in Ballston-Virginia Square.

During this time, the basketball courts at Hayes Park will be closed and parking will be restricted on 15th Street N and part of N. Lincoln St. There will be some noise from trucks at 15th Street N during the delivery of materials and equipment, and from the pumps and generators at the shaft locations.

To limit the impact of on-street parking issues along N Lincoln St. near Arlington Science Focus Elementary School, contractors will park their vehicles at the N. Quincy site near buildings 3 and 4 throughout the duration of this project.

This work will last approximately 3 months (weather permitting), and crews will work around the clock, including nights and weekends, for the duration of the project. We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your understanding as we complete this critical rehabilitation project.

Please contact Hisham Wahdan, Construction Manager, at hwahdan@arlingtonva.us or Kiara Candelaria Nieves, Communications Specialist, at kcnieves@arlingtonva.us with any questions. You may also call the Water and Sewer Control Center once the work begins at 703-228-5000 (7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday) or 703-228-6555 (24/7).
