Arlington in the Top 10 of EPA Green Power Partnership Partners

The EPA's Top Partner Rankings feature organizations that go above and beyond using clean power. Arlington County was recognized as one of this quarter's standout partners, among household names Microsoft, Staples and Dow, Inc. With an increase of nearly 63 million kWh, Arlington County uses more than 84 million kWh of green power, 100% of the County's electricity load, and moved up in the Top 30 Local Government List. NVRC

NVRC Hosts Delegation from Barcelona

In July, the Northern Virginia Regional Commission (NVRC) worked with Arlington's Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management (OSEM) and AIRE to host a multi-disciplinary, multi-sector discussion to build upon the County’s 2-½ year collaboration with the Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) under the European Union International Urban and Regional Cooperation Program. The AMB showed particular interest in the sustainability of large-scale urban redevelopment projects like Crystal City and the socially inclusive mitigation of urban heat islands, especially in public spaces. OSEM and AIRE's Demetra McBride and Rich Dooley represented the County.

Arlington Public Schools Receives Clean School Bus Rebate 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that Arlington is one of 18 Virginia school districts to receive the 2023 Clean School Bus rebate. This rebate will allow Arlington Public Schools (APS) to purchase five new all-electric or low-emission buses next year. Funded by the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this program aims to assist school districts nationwide in transitioning from diesel-powered buses to zero-emission electric buses or those powered by propane and natural gas. Air Conditioner Tax Credit

  • Amount: 30% of consumer cost, up to $600.
  • How to access: Submit IRS Form 5695 if you meet the requirements details by the IRS.

  • Why Upgrade?: Opting for high-efficiency air conditioners and implementing other cooling strategies can cut your air conditioning energy use by up to 50%.

  • Another energy-efficient cooling option is a heat pump, which offers both air conditioning and heating. You can also benefit from tax credits for both air-source and geothermal heat pumps, potentially saving you more money over time. See more tips like this.
