Early Voting for the June 18, 2024 Dual Party Primary is now open Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm at Courthouse Plaza (2100 Clarendon Blvd, Suite 320). Arlington will have a dual party primary election, which means both the Democratic Party and Republican Party will have primaries on the same day.
The Democratic Primary Election is being held for the office of County Board (1 seat). This race will be Ranked Choice Voting style and voters will be able to rank up to three candidates in order of preference. Read more about Ranked Choice Voting.
The Republican Primary Election is being held for U.S. Senate and will be the traditional vote for one style of voting.
Sample Ballots for both the Democratic and Republican Primaries are available on our website.
Note, in a dual primary voters will be asked if they want to vote in the Democratic or Republican Primary. Virginia is an open primary state meaning voters do not register by party. Any registered voter in Virginia is eligible to vote in either primary. Voters must choose which party ballot they wish to vote, and they can only vote in one primary. (VA Code 24.2-530). Voting in a party’s primary does not mean that the voter will be “registered” with that party.
